This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm looking for the opinion of the forum denizens. Which online book printing service do you think has the best quality/results? Services like Lulu and such.

DriveThruRPG would be disqualified as they don't allow you to upload your own PDF's for printing... do they?

I ask as I want to get a copy of the Star Wars D6 "REUP" fan compilation book and want to make sure the cover as well as the pages are on good stock and have good colour.

What's the best non-online Book Printing service for non-RPGs? Books are books. Publish a book and then buy a copy for yourself online somewhere.

I haven't used any others to compare, but Lulu gives decent results. And the price (for B&W, at least) is very reasonable. As in, they will print you a 200 page book for $6. Wait until the free shipping coupon comes around, and then order a bunch of books for under $50. Of course, you will have to purchase the PDF, and do some work to put it together on Lulu. The inside pages come out great, for the cover it will help to have some Photoshop skills or a copy of Illustrator.

Yeah, Lulu is weird about the cover. They won't just use the first and last pages of the PDF, you have to use an image.

I think 2588x3375. At least that's why the stuff I've made on Lulu used.

Yeah, that's right. For a quick and dirty book just to be read, I just convert the front cover to an image and slap it on. Comes out pixelated but if you squint it's OK. For a nice showcase book, you actually have to spend time to work some magic with Photoshop, which is not my strong point. Still, they have nice discount coupons from time to time, and I've gotten 400 page full-color books for dirt cheap, which are 95% as good as the real thing.
