This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Real, hardcore examples of "swinish" behaviour

Quote from: Levi KornelsenYou appear to be whipping yourself into a frenzy.

Is that fun?

Yes. I'm going out running in a minute and I need the agression.

Tell me I'm wrong though.

:-)
Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet.

and then there is that Levi fellow. :D

I analogize:

Your brush is much, much too wide.

Which is not at all the same as saying that the paint you're using doesn't exist.

Quote from: Erik BoielleYou are sheep! Its sole function is to make a bunch a vanity publishing pillocks on their little forum think they arn't really sitting in their basements pretending to be wizzards.

In my loft, pretending to be a starfighter pilot, actually*. :)

Quote from: Mcrowand then there is that Levi fellow. :D

Scum, that guy.

He tries to present himself pleasantly just because it aids communication, the two-faced bastard.  Enjoys conversation about himself because he likes attention, the vanity hog.  And talks about himself in the third person, the egotistical ass.  Never mind that he stands in as the "reasonable guy" excuse that one 'side' supposedly uses, but also validates the grudges of the other 'side'.

I have nothing good to say about him.  He'll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

Previously known by the name of "GrimGent".

Quote from: Elliot WilenIt's just irrelevant.

The whole thread is irrelevant. We've been over this ground so many times so recently.

This site is getting repetitive of late. That's far more serious than that Off-Topic BS.

Actually, you know what, this is a pretty good example.

I'm going to home in on a choice quote.

QuoteThere is not that much wrong with sticking with D20 if it makes you happy, even without trying other systems.
(emphasis mine).

Until you understand that there's nothing wrong with sticking with D20 if it makes you happy, you don't get it.

The same goes with projecting your experience onto others.
QuoteFor reasons I really still cannot figure it out, this phenomenon exists in a significant way in players of D20 and D&D. And I know that a lot of them are not having as much fun as they could. A lot of them are. But a lot aren't. I know this because I was one of them.

Listen to Acrozatarim, Rob Doupe, cjh, and Dan Hemmens--they all have smart things to say in that thread.

Sorry, I seem to have lapsed...but instead of talking about other people, at least we can get to the heart of the matter, which is walkerp's angst over not having people to game with, leading to various kinds of justification.

It's pretty simple. Do your convention. Promote it in a "if you're interested/curious, come on down" fashion.

Don't try to guilt people into thinking they need to prove they're not knuckledraggers.

James J Skach

fucking brilliant, Elliot.

And did you just quote the original poster (walkerp) back to him as an example? If you did, that's just fucking beautiful...

Pierce Inverarity

You know, walkerp, I don't get it. You're a long-time rpg.net poster and you used to be the most level-headed guy. And then, wham, you write this "fuck Yu0 Shannon" deathwish post on rpg.net, and show up here starting a thread worthy of some noob who just discovered gaming on the infraweb.

What gives?

No, seriously, I don't want to make walkerp feel bad; in fact I think most of the annoyance I somehow associated with his handle comes from the secondary effect of "defending GNS/the Forge"* (possibly due to limited experience), not from the primary issues I outlined above ("traditional games = railroading", etc.).

*Edit: make that "defending against all charges". Heck, I'll readily state that I've benefitted from some of the stuff that's come from those sources.
