This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quick quiz on recent purchases

Like it says really.

Here are the questions:

1.  What was your most recent rpg purchase?  For purchase here a swap or whatever is fine, but you must have actively acquired it so review copies don't count.

2.  Have you used your most recent purchase in an actual game?

3.  If not, do you expect to use it in an actual game, and if you do when?

4.  If you haven't used your most recent purchase in an actual game, when was the last time you did use something you actively acquired in an actual game?

5.  If relevant, how much other gaming product have you bought in between buying the last thing you bought that you have actually gamed with and your most recent acquisition?

And my answers:

1.  The DnD Rules Cyclopedia, from Ebay.

2.  No, not yet.

3.  I hope so, but I have no definite plans.  In other words, I have bought it with the intent of using it but don't know yet when that will be.

4.  Christ alone knows, quite a long time, months at the least.  And I play every week.

5.  Many, too many, I must have bought at least ten or more gaming products since the last time I bought something I actually used.  My hat of self know no bounds.

Now, your turn.  Post ye and be elated or depressed.

Quote from: Balbinus1.  What was your most recent rpg purchase?

I got a used copy of Aria: Worlds a week or two ago. I'd read it before, but never owned a copy. Got in a mood.

Quote2.  Have you used your most recent purchase in an actual game?

Yes, it's already seen use in my campaign as a resource. The writing is dreadful and dense, but there's useful stuff hidden behind the pompous purple posing. I keep wondering, idly, if Christian still owns it (or if WotC got the rights in the LUG buyout) and if he'd be interested in doing a new edition in regular English :)

The Rolemaster GM Screen PDF

Quote2.  Have you used your most recent purchase in an actual game?

No, only in campaign prep thus far.

Quote3.  If not, do you expect to use it in an actual game, and if you do when?

Yes, I do--this October, when I start up my gaming group in the states.

Quote4.  If you haven't used your most recent purchase in an actual game, when was the last time you did use something you actively acquired in an actual game?

I've already used the GameScience dice I picked up at Gen Con, if that counts.

Quote5.  If relevant, how much other gaming product have you bought in between buying the last thing you bought that you have actually gamed with and your most recent acquisition?

The GameScience dice were one of my last purchases at Gen Con, so nothing, really, that I can think of--I can't remember if I bought Chronicles of Ramlar before or after that, but that's nitpicky anyways.

A pair of ridiculously small and heavy copper d10s  and a new hex map from Crystal Caste.  My group's old map suffered an unfortunate incident involving the combination of a permanent marker and an obscene drawing of a smoking, anthropomorphic chili pepper.

Alas, summer.

A week from tomorrow, when our weekly game ramps up again.  The copper dice feel like dwarf stars - I hope the coffee table can take the weight. :D

m&m 2e (i will use this sooner or later, and midnight 1st e (used for 3$) I will likely never use it

I got a pair of pewter percentile dice from GameScience the Gen Con before last.  My group call them "The Tablewreckers". :D

Yep these are replacements for a pair of mythic dice known as the "Player Killers."  They are fierce, yet benevolent.;)

Last one was Runner Havens (Shadowrun 4 setting book). Bought as a gaming group purchase so I only paid a small fraction of the total cost, but it was new and bought with cash.

Last solo purchase was Burning Empires PDF. New and cash obviously.
Quote2.  Have you used your most recent purchase in an actual game?
Yes for Runner Havens. Or at least the GM did.

No for Burning Empires.
Quote3.  If not, do you expect to use it in an actual game, and if you do when?
I'm going to get together some people for the Burning Empires con slot sized demo senario when it gets posted up at their site. Since it is a bit different game, and the book itself is structured around mini-campaigns rather than one or two session pick-ups it is hard to just use it for people to evaluate play and buy into signing up for a whole multi-session game.
Quote4.  If you haven't used your most recent purchase in an actual game, when was the last time you did use something you actively acquired in an actual game?
Last night. Ran through a Burning Wheel demo senario with one of my groups teaching and having them evaluate the system.  That was my last solo purchase(s), the 3 books for it, and that's going back a ways now. They got use before as well, plus my group that is playing SR4 is going to rotate it in next as well.  Before that was the SR4 core book (1 year ago), and I've been playing in a campaign of that about 8 months now as well as a couple of the SR Missions at the local FLGS.
Quote5.  If relevant, how much other gaming product have you bought in between buying the last thing you bought that you have actually gamed with and your most recent acquisition?
Burning Empires is the only purchase that I've ever made that remains unused in actual gaming. I make very few purchases I don't use fairly shortly. I'm considering Plotus which would the first purchase in quite some time where I don't have an immediate plan to use it, other than just reading it.

EDIT I do have about 20 blank d6 dice I bought that I haven't used yet, and currently don't know what specifically what I'll use them for. I intentionally bought about twice more than I needed for a set of custom Shadowrun 4 dice I made.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/58097803@N00/198488168/  I also have a box of bargin grab bin metal miniatures that I can't guarantee I've used each one in play, but as a whole they have gotten use over the years.

There need to be dice like that.  Dice that do not seek battle, but welcome it all the same. :p

My most recent purchases (Dictionary of Mu, Burning Empires) haven't arrived in the mail yet. My most recent purchase that I actually have in my hands is Shock:.

Quote from: Balbinus2.  Have you used your most recent purchase in an actual game?
Not yet.

Quote from: Balbinus3.  If not, do you expect to use it in an actual game, and if you do when?
Yes. Not sure of an actual date, but I expect to put it into rotation after Don't Rest Your Head and Burning Empires.

Quote from: Balbinus4.  If you haven't used your most recent purchase in an actual game, when was the last time you did use something you actively acquired in an actual game?
Trollbabe, a couple weeks ago.

Quote from: Balbinus5.  If relevant, how much other gaming product have you bought in between buying the last thing you bought that you have actually gamed with and your most recent acquisition?
Hmmm, not sure. I buy a lot of games, and eventually get them into rotation, not necessarily in the order in which I buy them.

Quote1. What was your most recent rpg purchase? For purchase here a swap or whatever is fine, but you must have actively acquired it so review copies don't count.

My friend proxie-bought me a shitload of stuff from GenCon, all at once. But for the purposes of this thread, I'll use AGON and QIN: The Warring States.

Quote2.  Have you used your most recent purchase in an actual game?

Not yet, I just got them handed to me about a week ago... (see below)

Quote3.  If not, do you expect to use it in an actual game, and if you do when?

...But I've already scheduled myself to run a 4-hour session of AGON at a convention in November, and am planning on running QIN in the next 4 months or so for a 2-5 shot with one of my regular groups.

Quote4. If you haven't used your most recent purchase in an actual game, when was the last time you did use something you actively acquired in an actual game?

Hmmm. Two purchases ago I picked up Blue Rose, which I'm playing for the first time tomorrow.

Quote5. If relevant, how much other gaming product have you bought in between buying the last thing you bought that you have actually gamed with and your most recent acquisition?

Between Blue Rose and the GenCon Pile I picked up Exalted 2e's Dragon Blooded supplement. I gave it a look-through to see if it was more like what I wanted out of Exatled.  It wasn't. In fact, the rules were pretty empty: There was no Social Conflict rules like in the Exalted 2e book. The reason was that DB was being worked on at the same time as Exalted 2e, and WW wanted to get DB to market fast, so the DB team didn't have time to read/review Exalted 2E and its new rulessets before pushing it to the printer. Inexcusable in my book, but oh well. I still get my Exalted on from time to time in a homebrew India-themed setting.

1.  What was your most recent rpg purchase?

Last purchases were at GenCon.

Only game purchases I made on the Dealers floor were Dawning Star, Wildwood, Rappan Athuk Reloaded, and Spycraft Conspiracies, as well as a flip mat and a "ready and waiting" initiative chart. I also picked up some second hand stuff like Northern Crown, Fudge 10th Anniversary Edition, Tome of the WatchTowers, Future Players Guide, Future Soldiers Battlefield Handbook, Magic of Arcanis, Shadow Falling, and Mysterious Places.

2.  Have you used your most recent purchase in an actual game?

I used the aforementioned flip-mat and initiative chart in my Spycraft games at Gencon.

On the home front, I don't have a real gaming group right now, but I am forming one.

3.  If not, do you expect to use it in an actual game, and if you do when?

There's a decent chance I'll get to use Spycraft Conspiracies if my Spycraft game takes off, Fudge 10th if I start a family game with my daughter, and Rappan Athuk if I do any D&D pickups.

4.  If you haven't used your most recent purchase in an actual game, when was the last time you did use something you actively acquired in an actual game?

Of pre-GenCon purchases, I used D20 Modern Critical Locations in my Spycraft Pickups at GenCon.

5.  If relevant, how much other gaming product have you bought in between buying the last thing you bought that you have actually gamed with and your most recent acquisition?

If you count my Spycraft pickups, none, because I didn't buy anything on sunday.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

1. What was your most recent rpg purchase?
Burning Wheel and Monster Burner.

2. Have you used your most recent purchase in an actual game?
Not yet.

3. If not, do you expect to use it in an actual game, and if you do when?
I plan to run my next campaign in BW with my own setting.

4. If you haven't used your most recent purchase in an actual game, when was the last time you did use something you actively acquired in an actual game?
Wow, I'd say a year ago, when I was running Exalted and used The Autochthonians splat. It's been a while, and I don't typically use the stuff I buy as a player.

5. If relevant, how much other gaming product have you bought in between buying the last thing you bought that you have actually gamed with and your most recent acquisition?
Less then 5. These books cost money you know. :)
Running: Dogs of WAR - Beer & Pretzels & Bullets
Planning to Run: Godbound or Stars Without Number
Playing: Star Wars D20 Rev.
