This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Gods, yes. As if the damn lightning bringer turrets weren't bad enough. Phil's take on pre-dreadnought naval warfare left a lot to be desired, from our point of view...

Well, in My Tekumel they certainly swim. I don't understand why the Professor referred to them as "Aquatic" otherwise. If all he wanted was them to use ships he should have used the term "Seafaring" or "Waterborne"! Aquatic implies that they are at home in the water. And one can't compare them to Pe Choi as they are not the same species - and not even from the same planet.

Personally, I think they swim as per Alien Resurrection: https://youtu.be/2YDX88FcD-k

As per Gronan and Chirine's comments, it may have been a game balance element that crept into "Real Tekumel." After all, they are pretty tough as presented already. I personally also have no problem visualising the Hlyss as good swimmers. Perhaps a hereto undiscovered sub-species of the critters?

That scene is pretty great. Must have been super tough on the crew and actors.
Love the close up detail on the alien's cute webbed hands.

Well, I've been very lucky in my life, and known a lot of really cool people. We just seem to do things here in a different way then some might expect, I guess. :)

I don't see any problems with this; please keep in mind that what I report is what I saw. The damn things may very well be able to swim, as per your note, it's just that we didn't see it happening. Of course, every time we'd run into them we'd either be underground, on land, or out in the deeps; a kind of limited sample, really, so I tend to agree with your observation.

I would not be at all surprised if they were quite at home in the shallows, as it would suit their raiding tactics to a 'T'. So more amphibious, perhaps, but still nicely aquatic and lethal on their home grounds.

Could be; I think it was more of a reporting data thing, as I commented above. Phil never really cared about 'play balance', so I don't think that was the issue; I just think we nevre saw them actually swimming, so that's it. I did like their little 'water wings' for added flotation, which makes me think of "Waterworld" more then anything else.
