This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

No. The Tekumel Foundation is still feuding with Joe Zottola over them, so don't expect anything any time soon.

Also, I am VERY hesitant to borrow irreplaceable artifacts.  Lords of Tsamra is on the web with about a $150 asking price in several places.

I've got two paper sets, one signed, one plain. I also have all of the original manuscripts, including "Beside The Dark pool Of Memory", so the paper copies are surplus to my needs. Maybe I should cash in and have a sale; $450 the set would buy a lot of miniatures.

Quote from: Shemek hiTankolel;1034229Yeah, I agree. That's how I see them as well.

Shemek.

Yep. Same here.

Quote from: Shemek hiTankolel;1034230That was my reaction as well, the first time I read it. I know some people have dismissed the last three books, but to be honest I like them as much the first two, and they have a wealth of information in them that can be used in campaigns.

Shemek.

"Lords" was actually written in two parts; the first half before Phil and DAW broke up, and the second half about a decade later.

I like all five, but then I have a slightly different viewpoint on them then most. I use them as what they are best as, travel guides and references.. I personally write in a very different style, from a very different point of view; unlike what has been said in other places, I view Phil's novels and my memoir as complimentary, not exclusionary.

Moving day today, here at The Workbench; there's a blizzard outside, so i'm staying in and moving stuff from the game room to the newly-cleared spare room. Moving mannequins is just as bizarre and oddly amusing as ever... :)

Sometimes a blizzard isn't a bad thing.  I've been building some of my backlog of HO freight car kits.

No surprise there.

Agreed, sad to say. As I understand it from Joe, they want the master files from him so that they can have their own editions printed up. He told them he wanted to be reimbursed for the money he'd spent on the work to get the booms ready for the printers, but they declined, claiming that he was asking too much for the work done. Which, I will confess, I thought was a trifle odd, seeing as how several of what are now the TF had been the ones who had done the work and gotten paid for it...

Ah, me. And people wonder why I am so very happy to be out of all that... :)

Agreed! It's been a lovely day - we can't actually see either the van or the bug out the front door, but then we're in no rush to go anywhere - and it's been just heaps of fun going through boxes and bins finding stuff that I haven't seen in years. Finding the Saudi silk rugs was a particular treat!

I do wonder what the 5e group will make of it all. I'll be setting up the table like we used to do for adventures - no grids, no battle mats - and it'll be just the way it used to be on the Ping-Pong table... :)

Well, as you taught me, "Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by stupidity."  Or, in this case, by utter disorganization.  Umber doesn't give a shit, Moose is getting on with his life, and the others are in 3F mode -- "Fart, faint, and fall down."  Nobody is in CHARGE, and nobody wants to make a mistake, so inertia is in charge.

Oh, I like this. A good interpretation. Thanks.

To my mind, the two Pylons would be a mix of medieval minaret-like towers (but in space! and infinite), covered with intricate surface and interrior patterns/corridors/chambers, reminiscent of what you see at the Ennis House in L.A. (which itself was inspired by Mayan motifs and architecture).

Quote from: Big Andy;1034111(...)I found him to be delightful. And, from a gaming perspective, very informative of how to play or run a follower of Ksarul without them being a cliche mustache twirling Machiavellian evil schemer, which seems how too many default to playing them. Having a different view to the various temples makes them really come alive. The concept developed upthread of the almost used car salesman version of a Sarku worshipper - How are you going to spend your afterlife?- was another great example. Not all Sarku worshipers are dour necromancers sitting on a pile of bones listening to Bauhaus

My thoughts exactely. Well put.

No. I got "Lords of Tsamra" and "Prince of Skulls" off of the electronic-bay for 50 dollars each. Yes, it's expensive, but (1) it was a treat and (2) it was still the cheapest of all the prices out there.
Now to find the last one!

hmmm, I don't think I've ever heard of "Beside The Dark pool Of Memory". What is it?
