This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Cthulhu+giant robots=lame. Maybe lame squared.

In my opinion.

Quote from: BalbinusI think, by the way the thread has developed, it's undermining your original point now.

How about another example?  Because I think your OP was correct, but this example is creating more heat than light at this point.
Well there's Shadowrun.

Can't think of anything else from my own experience right now, though we all know the sort of snobbery that goes on in the minds of gamers.

Quote from: J ArcaneIt has become rather abundantly apparent that this thread is nothing more than fanboy apologetics.

It's starting to give me flashbacks to the kind of fanboy bullshit behavior I left Evil Avatar because of, and as such, I'm done with it.
There' s nothing fanboyish about it. You're slagging off something because it doesn't in your view measure up to your purist view of Lovecraft. I'm telling you to either put up or shut up. You can't do the latter so you chuck your toys out the pram and become unpleasant. Grow up you child.

D20 Cthulhu is the example that springs to mind for me, long before it was released hordes of purists were decrying it.

It actually wasn't a bad game.

I'm with signoftheserpent to a certain extent with an anti-purist attitude. A new setting or mechanic might not be everyone's cup of tea but that doesn't mean that it should be panned just because it's not original.

Some might remember those who spat blood at the idea of d20 AD&D - oddly they were the same fans who would pick holes in the 3rd Ed ruleset too. Perhaps critics are never happy.

A future Cthulhu gets my vote, though. Would be nice to see something a bit different.

Well, I guess that settles it.

Actually, for the most part, I kind of feel the same way. But I don't think it's inevitably bad, I just think it's not likely to be my cup of tea. See, I can see how it kind of ties into the Evangelion thing (something I didn't watch much of, to tell the truth), and I feel it's pretty obvious that mankind would probably answer the question of Ultimate Cosmic Unknowableness with large explosives.

But, still.

I'm not a gaming purist, or a purist of any sort. I like mix-ups. That said, I understand the drive towards purism, because mix-ups are really easy to fuck up. Easier then most, because the tendancy seems to be to just mix shit up for the sake of being different, never breathing much new life into the deal. Shadowrun, for example, read to me to be one of these issues. It could have been a fine game; either cyberpunk or a real mix-up (D&D in the future?). But it seems like the mysticism was tacked onto the cyberpunk with some roofing nails and a bit of tape.

I wasn't real impressed. And until I see otherwise, I just kind of assume that Cthulutech is going to be all enthusiasm and no insight. It probably won't be awful, but it might well be nothing special, which is a dissapointment.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

It's very good, it's basically CoC in the future but with a healthy dollop of the setting from Aliens to round it out.  Very gameable.

Meh, I'll wait for the book to come out and then pass judgement. At worst I'll be able to loot it was material and ideas for other games.

Excellent. That's exactly the sort of thing I was referring to in an earlier post. :)

I wonder what would happen if "LotR - The Seventh Age" were in the works and it included modern/mecha. Imagine the Internet furor.

We should start a rumor just to see it...

I like genre mashup, though I'm uncertain as to how CT is actually genre mashup. It's just SF Horror. Hardly an impossible juxtaposition.

I do not see anything wrong about C-Tech myself. I like the idea behind the game. Near Dark Future. Shite is hitting the fan. Humans try to fight a losing battle against the Elder Gods and the horrors they bring. The Human will go out fighting though.

Engel Mechas. Cool concept, not one i will focus on when i play.
Tagers. These symbiotes sound pretty cool so far. Same goes for their enemies of the Chrysalis Corp. and their shapeshifters.
Normal Mechs. Ok i'd rather use these than the Engels for that battletech goodness ;)
Normal soldiers. not interested.
Rest of the setting so far. Not sure, but so far not too interested in the rest.
