This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

GMs? We're all just Frakking Dee-Jays. (and thats okay)

Closest I ever got to that was the three months in 1996 where I get paid by a museum to wear the Klingon outfit and explain Science to people. It was 8 to 9 bucks an hour. In '96 that was pretty good.

You would have had a tough time with me as I was a starting Defensive Linesmen for my High School football team as well as a swimmer and I lettered in both all four years of High School. Nevermind the high adventure trips I took with my scout trips (Note: One ascept  of High Adventure for Boy Scouts meant going to areas where you would be in serious trouble if you screwed up because you would be far from any type of help. So only experienced scouts would be allowed to go.)

Gee the assumptions people make.

Easy tough guy. My tough guy internet persona can beat up your tough guy internet persona.:p

And I can still run away from both while making Three Stooges sounds.

I was never one for running, or for that matter driving. Now strolling I can get down with.

eh... I thought it was more fun to push my fellow football players into lockers. I think they agreed... I've got the scars to prove it.

...Getting back to the DJ & Music analogy.....

I think the GMs that make and write their own game systems are akin to either Dee-Jays who also musicians and work their own music into what they play at a dance.

GMs who write their own game systems or use bits from 8 or 9 Roleplaying and concoct something new - but that still has recognizable bits from all those games are like the rap DJs that started to get well-known around the late 1970s and early 1980s.  Thats when "Rapper's Delight" first by on the scene as made famous by Sugarhill Gang.  I was working a dance monthly at the drinks table....remember quite well when the song first started to become a big thing.

What a GM like that does is very similiar to what Dance/House DJs do who use a lot of sampling to create new mixes and songs.

....Oh all of this may not be a perfect analogy - but it makes a lot more sense to me than the GNS/Big Model stuff does.
