This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How balanced in Shadowrun 5E?

Soon I'll hopefully have some good money in my pockets and put some of it into RPG purchases (as well as pre-ordering Dragon Age III). One possibility is Shadowrun 5E. I've played SR2, SR3 and SR4, and I like best the SR2 setting and the SR4 rules (except for the universal smartphone hacking which makes this gonzo-1980's setting look too much contemporary). I do have a certain problem with the complexity level, as well as with balance issues. In SR4, EVERYTHING was hackable according to canon fluff, and being off-line (i.e. unhackable by wi-fi) was relatively rare, so GMing a hacker was annoying, as she could hack almost anything. Also, mages with good summoning skills were VERY POWERFUL and could wipe the floor with the opposition; a mage made out of teh SR4 core book could kick the ass of the opposition in official adventures, such as Shadowrun Missions.

So has SR5 solved these balance issues?
We are but a tiny candle flickering against the darkness of our times.
