This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Cylonophile;413134What? No love for "The morrow project"?

I had a blast with Morrow Project, back in the day.  I like 1e Gamma World, too, for a different flavor of the genre.  I never got to play Twilight 2000, but always wanted to give it a try.

When I was younger I loved the Morrow Projects concept.

Its rules? Not so much. I can understand the logic behind tracking blood loss in a realistic like manner. Yet I prefer to, no pun intended, go with the flow, in gaming. Not worry too much about such nitpicky details and add them in as aspects that make logical sense for the even occurring, rather than have them forced on me by rules.

Loved Gamma World 1e back in the Wayback... Twilight 2000 looked great to me but it never got on to the table...
Currently I'd want to play Tribe 8 or Psychobilly Retropocalypse (at least the settings if not the system)... I definitely prefer my PA with a big dose of weird.

Quote from: flyingmice;413035Arrrgh! Marco's JAGS site has been flaky ever since it was hacked a year ago. Last month he said he had worked on it. Maybe you should try it again? With C-13, Have-Not, and Wonderland, JAGS has some of the best supplements ever.

Hey it works! Sorry, I hadn't tried recently.
Cool.

Does WasteWorld count?  I love me some WasteWorld -- someone should pick that up, clean up the mechanics and rerelease it.

Those looking for a unique PARPG might do well to go here.

Or here.

Or maybe here.

For a really bizarre take on the PA/post human domination world, try this.

It is fantastic. One of my favorites. I rather prefer it to most other PA games in terms of rules, simple yet robust.

Onoes someone actually addressed sex in an RPG, kill kill! :-P

FWIW I was, uh, really skeptical of the AW sex rules or, really, of addressing sex at all in an RPG. Huge part of human life and relationships, really hard/weird to address amongst a tableful of dudes drinking beer and pretending to be elves. However, and this will probably fall on deaf ears 'round these parts, the rules work well. You don't exactly get a direct "mechanical benefit" from fucking fellow PCs, but the fact that there's an asymmetrical mechanical impact (not always a straight bonus) helps, I think, make it seem less intimate and weird. In play, the sex move feels more like negotiating a teamwork sequence in any other RPG.

You get a more direct "mechanical impact" from being damaged by and/or by healing fellow PCs. Being damaged by someone increases your "History (Hx)" stat with that PC; healing someone increases their Hx with you. Later in the game, you can help/hinder PCs based on your Hx with them, as well as cash in Hx for advancements.

I think you could make an argument that adding any sort of mechanical element to sex in an RPG doesn't make it any less squicky, and/or that it sort of devalues the act since it's being done, typically, for gain of some sort. On that latter point, I think that's a good (and cynical) take on that element of the PA genre. On the former, well, taste and all that.

Anyway, AW is my go-to PA game these days. And brother I have played, wow, a lot of games in the genre: Aftermath, Gamma World, Atomic Highway, Earthdawn (arguable but IMO it's improved as a PA game), Morrow Project, etc.

EDIT: Oh yeah and Wasteworld! (I wrote Toxic Springs and lots of other Wasteworld stuff for King)

Soylent Green

Ah yes, Warp World. I still have a copy of the original edition. I never played it and the only reason it survived various game culls is simply because I really like the art work.

But really, the system was crazy complicated and setting was equally crazy contrived. I'm sure somewhere, some one has run it, but I can't imagine many have.
New! Cyberblues City - like cyberpunk, only more mellow. Free, fully illustrated roleplaying game based on the Fudge system
Bounty Hunters of the Atomic Wastelands, a post-apocalyptic western game based on Fate. It\'s simple, it\'s free and it\'s in colour!

For a PA setting with "k3wl b3wbs" try this.

I like NeoTerra alot, and it is post-apocolyptic, but I don't think of it when I usually think of PA games.

Yeah, I agree.  Today I'd steal the concept and heavily modify or (more likely) replace the rules.  It didn't faze me back then, though; I just went with it.

TMP...cool premise, meh rules, never made it to the table.Traded recently (kept the patches and shirt).

GW1ed...cool setting w/simple rules. Played this a bit back in the day and loved it. One aspect of the rules I disliked...the artifact use flow chart (or whatever the hell that thing was called.) Would buy again if a good copy with un-marked map surfaced at LFGS.

T2k...neat premis. Appealed to the wargamer in me as well as the RPG side. Read hard played little. Am considering (v2.2?) PDF format...

Freedom Fighters...could do the genre. A bit crunchy for me and recently traded (kept the pin). Never played only studied.

AH...Am eager to play this one. Studied hard (Irradiated freaks is a cool supp.!) Looks like it can handle any of the above w/little tweaking. Hope some "adventures"/supp. hit the shelves soon. May even run some straight Fantasy with this one.

SW...could do the trick.

Rifts...meh rules. Played a bit (never GM) and liked it! Setting widely variable. Traded recently.

isn't Hawkmoon (or was it Corum...) PA ?
my hombrew "Grit" & setting "Hoggwyld" offer the superlative play experience of the genre!
...IMHO...:p
Form the group wisely, make sure you share goals and means.
Set norms of table etiquette early on.
Encourage attentive participation and speed of play so the game will stay vibrant!
Allow that the group, milieu and system will from an organic symbiosis.
Most importantly, have fun exploring the possibilities!

Yes, hawkmoon was sort of post apocalypse, but with some magic added.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawkmoon

Specifically:

In 1985, Kerie Campbell-Robson created a role playing game based on the Hawkmoon series, published by Chaosium and using its Basic Role-Playing system. While never attaining any lasting level of popularity among English-speaking gamers, the game became hugely popular in France, where local publisher Oriflam not only produced several editions of the base manuals but also several unique adventure supplements and geographical gazetteers which detailed lands never mentioned in the Moorcock novels, such as Spain and Ireland.

Mongoose Publishing now have the rights to publish Hawkmoon the Role-Playing Game, so far they have produced a core rule book, a Granbretan Supplement, a journal covering the region of Castle Brass and several scenario supplements.
