This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Poll: Are you a D20 Fan?

Nope.

We're in month six of our D&D campaign, with another month or two before that wraps up. Then we'll kick off the next D&D game, which we've tentatively titled "Second Gen", as it will deal with the fall out from the first game.

We're also getting a Shadowrun game together, which should be fun since we've taken about a year off from SR.

I'm just displeased with how my favorite games have decided to handle their line in the last few years. Shadowrun has consistently lowered the bar to attract a younger crowd, in hopes of staying up with the market. D&D is always fun, but man the rules kill you.

Edit

Seanchi replied before I  finished my post which is response to the question posted by Blue Devil.

Quote from: RPGPunditOnce again, the ONLY motivation behind starting this poll is that when I told Walker that he should expect most people to not support his D20-hate around here because the majority of this site are D20 fans, pierce came along and tried to claim that most people on this site actually aren't D20 fans.

Of course, I'd never actually done a poll before, so for all I know he might be right; but I just don't find that very likely.  Anyways, we'll see now. I had just taken it for granted that most of the people here were fans of D20 who wouldn't feel too much sympathy for Walker's Anti-d20 position.

You know, that's fine. I change my assertion.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

I can understand that.

I should also note, that until this previous January, we hadn't played D&D since the mid 1980's. (Well most of us. One guy in our group played 2nd Edition. I can't recall what I played the last time I played, but I know Lankhmar (Spelling?))

I like D&D. I like Star Wars. I like Babylon 5. I do not like d20. I don't dislike it either. d20, by itself, is useless to me. Without a setting to hang it on, and modifications to make it better fit that genre, it's worthless.

I don't know where that puts me in the politics of the original poll, so I'll skip answering it and just let my words tell the tale.

Nobody inhales pipe smoke, at least not tobacco pipe smoke.

Quote from: KillingMachineI'm kind of curious how many people who are fans of D&D 3.X are the one in their group that usually has to run it?

I run almost exclusively.

QuoteI just get the impression that it seems to be a system that is geared to be way more appealing to players than the poor bastard who has to run it.

This gets us back to why I think some d20 implementations are better than D&D. Spycraft, my go-to game of late, has a simplified, scaling NPC generation system.

Adamant has a version of this for D20 Modern in the pipeline.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.

Correct, Walker! Are you an actual pipe smoker?

I have no interest in D20, really.  However, I don't really understand "anti-D20" mentalities...or anti-anything else, really.  I don't like D20, so I don't buy or play it.  I feel no compunction to look for opportunities to attack it.  I only clicked on this thread because it seemed a pretty straightforward poll...and I was bored.

I've recently learned to appreciate it, and even like it, but I'm not a fan, no.  D20 is not my go-to system of choice.

No I don't like D20, but I haven't gotten my hands on the new Star Wars RPG yet.

Yep, I am the same way.  I am not an Anti-D20 person, I just don't like it and don't play it and will not for any reason play it.

It doesn't appear the Majority of the gamers here play D20.   If anything it seems like it's 50/50
