This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Poll: Are you a D20 Fan?

Not a fan, but that could have something to do with me never having played any d20 games.

I left the hobby years ago and found too many other interesting games when I came back to bother with D&D as I hear it's pretty demanding prep-wise.

I voted yes though it was a tough call. I am looking forward to playing C&C and had a blast playing a Midnight campaign a year or so ago. So though I am not a fan of some of the d20 mechanics and do think there are better systems, I do have fun playing it at times though with all it warts.

i voted yes, but i really wouldn't call myself a "fan" as in "fanboy."  i like d20 enough, i'll play it (i won't ref 3.5 anymore, tho) and i like how its popularity will bring new blood into the hobby.  but i prefer other non-level-based systems.

yes i know there are level-less d20 things out there.  no need to jump on that, fanboys.  :D

Quote from: SosthenesI'm a D20 fan. I like the idea of a modular, open system -- with a bit more crunch and less wacky dice than FUDGE.

Never was a big fan of D&D, though. It's the default fantasy D20, so I play it, but most of the conventions and traditions don't do much for me.

You like D20 but you don't like D&D?  Traitor!  :D

Totally kidding

Blue Devil

No I do not like D20 and I do not and will not play it for any reason.

So I of course voted no

RPGPundit

D&D is one of my least favourite D20 games, out of the ones I do play.

You had to ask?

Any how if it was even half as good as First Edition Palladium Fantasy Roleplay or Mechanoid Invasion Book three (or the real StarWars rpg...) I would so be there.

I don't hate classes and levels when the implementation doesn't completely suck.  I don't hate the dice type.  I don't even hate hit points.

But d20 couldn't have been a worse implementation if Jerry Fallwell had writen it.

Ok... and if its not classes, levels, dice types, or hit points, then what? What about the implementation makes you hate it?

Well, I answered yes obviously. But for the record, Im also a big fan of a wide range of non-d20 games, most notably GURPs, Hero and Gamma World.

Serious Paul

I'm not really a fan of anything anymore. I've sort of found myself dissatisfied with pretty much all RPG's at the moment.

KillingMachine

I'm kind of curious how many people who are fans of D&D 3.X are the one in their group that usually has to run it? To me, its a whole different beast if you are a player than if you have to be the DM. I'll play it, but I'd never run it again.
I just get the impression that it seems to be a system that is geared to be way more appealing to players than the poor bastard who has to run it.

Serious Paul

Amen.

I am the Dungeon master for our current 3.5e game, and let me tell you it's a colossal pain in my ass. It's bad enough you have to be ready to stop the game and look stuff up at the drop of a hat, but the cross referencing system is horrible.

We're running our game, in our own setting, which we've enjoyed a great deal setting up. But man running three magic users in this game is like pulling teeth.

Are you pretty much more or less on a break from rpgs right now?

Seanchai

I voted yes, but I would have answered "It depends" if that option were present as I don't buy systems, I buy games.
