Title: Podcast Update
Post by: Dr Rotwang! on May 18, 2007, 02:01:26 PM
It's finished.  It's an .mp3 sitting on my hard drive at home (I'm at the library right now, where I can't log into my blog for some dumb reason.)

I think Blue Devil is gonna host the file itself; I just need to hear from him.  And then -- DEVASTATION!

Well, no.  Just...just a podcast.

What, what?

You? Podcast?

Does this mean we get to hear your voice?

Yep, I am going to host it as soon as I can come up with a good solution on how to get the file to me.

I think I have a solution.  I will PM you

Hopefully we can get that up and going tonight.   If you know of anyone else who needs a podcast hosted please let them know about us.

We will also put a link on our site so people can access it directly from the site

I'll do same on my blog.

I have a second episode planned out, in case the first one doesn't suck.

Crap, this is gonna cause major cognitive dissonance for me, isn't it? The Dr Rotwang voice in my head that reads your posts already sounds a certain way, and if your real voice is too different it will mess with my head.

[*listens to pod*]

Funny, I had expected you to sound taller, but then again you had a cold, though now all your posts sound like they're being read by Morgan Fairchild.

Thanks. -_-

So let me get this straight: Traveller had been trying to get into your pants for 15 years before you realized it had the hots for you? 0_o

And then your podcast ends in a cliffhanger: "that's when I learned that Traveller was...". What, a transvestite? Actually a fantasy game all along? Employee training manuals from Japan? I'm suffering from nose stigmata in anticipation of your podcast's exciting conclusion.

Monkeybutt.

Okay, I'm working on a fix.

EDIT: I'm sending it back up to Blue Devil.  I dunno WTF, but when I downloaded the very file I sent him, it's only 14 minutes long.  But on my hard drive, it's the full shebang.

There was an issue with the file he uploaded.  This has been corrected and the new file has been uploaded.

Try it again

My local FLGS has the Classic Traveller 0-8 book.  I looked at it, it read like stero instructions and I put it back down.

Just don't get it

Excellent stuff, Doc Rotwang. Witty, informative and entertaining. What really shines through though is your passionate enthusiasm for Traveller and RPG's in general. It's also nice to know I'm not the only goon with a stack of games on the floor and dice on the bedside table.

Regarding random setting generation, you may be interested in the WFRP supplement Renegade Crowns. It does exactly the same sort of thing as the old Dragon article you mentioned, although with greater depth and detail. Check it out if you get the chance.

Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to the next instalment.

I agree that it was well done.

I am just hoping that maybe Doc will be able to teach me the finer points of Traveler so I can actually understand and play it.

After reading the Classic Travler 0-8 book I was more confused then ever

Ask me why the first version was borked.  Go ahead.

ANSWER: I'u'no.

I think maybe the FTP software I used stopped transmitting the file before it was complete, but I don't know nothin' 'bout FTPin' no podcasts, so that's conjecture at best.

I am very honored by the positive feed back, but warn you that that type of talk will only encourage me.

It could have been the FTP software, it could have been a bunch of things.

Doesn't matter,  Either way its working now

Yep, good stuff. I listened to the first half while at work but was CRUELLY DENIED by the tech glitch. Anyway, just finished the whole thing and I like it a lot.

Are you planning on continuing in a similar vein about different games and so on? I hope so.

It was quite a good scared, though. Passed quickly.

Dang it, Doc! You're going to make me buy speakers, aren't you! Then I'll be assaulted by random music whenever I surf! Curse you!

Or you could just give a quick synopsis. I'd love to know. :D

What a great, fun podcast! Rotwang, you have a super delivery.

Also, don't feel too bad about not hooking up with whatever her name was. Or go ahead, feel bad, just know that you're not alone.

Now I have to see Three O'Clock High. Never heard of it before now.

Finally, you may or may not be interested to know that I referred to Traveller as "a game of existential wandering".

Hi Dr. Rotwang,

Hosting is pretty cheap nowadays. I get 5 terrabytes of bandwidth for 5 bucks a month at //www.site5.com . I did the math awhile ago and I don't remember the specifics, but I'm fairly sure you would need an audience several orders of magnitude larger than what any rpg podcaster is getting for traffic to risk breaking that 5 terrabyte limit.

This is assuming you don't have different reasons other than money to make other arrangements.

Thanks, Clyde.  I'm doin' OK now, thanks.

Mostly I need to get back to recording, now that my cold is finally letting up and my voice doesn't sound like there's a bucket of Lee Marvins in my throat.

I haven't finished listening yet, but your sound quality was really good. I'd feel embarrassed comparing my first show to yours. Do you have some sound background? You seem really comfortable with the schizophrenic experience of talking to yourself. I'm still feeling weird standing in my closet talking to myself.

Post by: Dr Rotwang! on May 29, 2007, 06:36:36 AM
I don't have any sound background that a two-year Associates' degree in TV & radio can't give you.  In other words, I know a bit but not a lot.

As far as talking to myself goes...years of practice, man.

Thank you for the positive comments, to you and to all.  Does anyone have any quibbles?  I'm not in a hurry to rest on my laurels here.

Your winding tangents were okay, and as I mentioned were friendly and conversational. There is however a line between that and just rambling. I'd make sure that they aren't too long.

Well he is actually hosting his podcast on my rpg website.   His podcast is really doing well because the bandwidth usage on my hosting package has spikd since his first episode was posted (and it was posted later in the month, if he gets it to me at the begining of the month I bet it will be higher).
