This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Please WotC, do me a favor

Please bring out card decks matching your book releases.
With all those per encounter-abilities, I´d clearly need some other instrument of organization than a sheet of paper.
For my Crusader and Warblade(:skull:), I already handicrafted me nices decks for their strikes, stances and boosts.

But if it´s core and with every Class, I want pre-packaged ability and spell decks for all characters.

Actually I do think this will happen.

Sett, you just perfectly described why I don't play D&D.  That fiddly stuff just isn't fun for me.

Cards would help though.

a blue/black, more counter than graveyard manipulation; and
a white/red, for healing and blasting"

I´d rather keep the hobby alive with paying for gaming paraphanalia than for DDI. I´m a sucker for Dungeon Tiles, Miniatures, Critical Hit Decks, Dice, Magic Item Decks etc.

So please, WotC, bring out "Ability Decks". It´d just be honest.

I fear though, they aren´t announcing it prematurely to prevent the "You´re turning it into Magic!" outcry.

Agreed, Sett.

i bought the game mastery critical hit deck, and i'm pretty much not into anything card-based whatsoever.  it's badass!

so yeah, having your own deck to represent the breadth of skill, spell, and feat your character has in addition to a paper character sheet, would be appealing.

hell, it was '91 when TSR sold cards with spells, monsters, etc.

My favorite to play was a G/W/U deck called The Machine that was devised to maximize card synergy. It was a really good deck, but expensive and hard to play.

Oh, and I already made 'decks' of spells for wizards, so this makes sense.
God in the Machine.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

You know what would kick ass? The Guild Wars RPG.

Essentially you have 350-400 cards that represent skills or abilities, right/ Make them collectible or NOT or whatever,. Doesn't matter. The cards are like "Healing Signet: Your character can heal +40 hit points on himself, but takes -40 to his AC for the next 6 rounds." and "Cyclone Axe: Your character attacks everyone in range with any axe and does +10 damage on each attack."

Ok, you have stats, and then your characters has to have 8 cards. They can be any 8 out of that big old collectible pile of 1000 or whatever, but you can't change them outside of an adventure zone. Those cards represent your characters skills and abilities.

The "hand" of cards is your character sheet.
That would be awesome.

make it NOT collectible, and i'm interested.  too many not-so-fond memories of the "mister suitcase" syndrome in magic: the gathering, thanks

Well, fair enough! The cool thing is your deck (your character sheet) can be no larger than 8 cards.

Or wait-- levelling up. First you only get three cards.

You've just described some of the crap that I think is doing the hobby most harm. The more espensive it seems, the less kids will flock to it. Give 'em a game they can play with one book, a few dice and a pencil and watch them go. Give 'em a game that calls for a wheelbarrow full of rubbish and they'll wilt. Why do you think most kids grow out of Games Workshop games?

This is just pie in the sky. Where are these hordes of kids playing the game with just one book? Such games already exist. They aren't bad games. Some of them are great...  but the mass audience has never materialized.

Look, a Dungeon Tile is just convenient, as are miniatures. They don´t take anything away from your time, they ADD to the experience. It´s a win-win situation.

ESPECIALLY if you are a "one book only" type of person.

RC+loads of minis + flipmat+dungeon tiles  is way better than RC + nothing.

Minis and props enhance YOUR game, YOUR campaign, they are literal building blocks, you´r FREE to use them in any way you want!

A pre-packaged module?
A pre-packaged setting?

They all fare worse in my book.

There aren't hordes of kids playing any RPGs any more. Hardly surprising.
