This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

There's a reason I don't share my internet connection while my games are on.

Quote from: RPGPundit;496109There's a reason I don't share my internet connection while my games are on.

I don't have that kind of problem during my games. I have some players, though, who agonize to show you "just this one video, we must see it because it is too (whatever)!"

This wouldn't be a problem by itself. But it unavoidably risks to cause a chain reaction where 386,889 "wait, this video reminded me of this other thing too!" later 3 hours and 58 minutes of the 4 hours allocated to gaming are gone.

I never went as far as pinning sings on the wall sporting "We meet to play D&D doesn't means 'XXIII Internet Video Festival Evening'. It means: 'We meet to play D&D'." - but someday I'll do just that.
For every idiot who denounces Ayn Rand as "intellectualism" there is an excellent DM who creates a "Bioshock" adventure.

Blackhand

Never had a problem with smoke.

Beer has been an issue a couple of times, but we're all really rowdy anyway.

I spent my last heal spell, then my snake druid did a snake dance and slithered under the table.

Everyone laughed about, and still laugh about me rolling around on the floor.

Quote from: Aos;495603Honestly, I've never seen this happen with pot or booze. As with anything moderation is key.

This has been my experience pretty much. If it turns out that Bob or whoever can't handle themselves with moderation, we either kick that guy out or we take control of how much they are allowed to imbide (usually by talking, because actually sitting on someone's booze supply just sucks).
"Meh."

Ghost Whistler

Quote from: Machinegun Blue;495602And getting drunk or stoned during a game is just asking to have that session written off. I'm not a fan of game night going from D&D to, "Hey, Bob's getting drunk off his ass."

Besides cannabis smoke is just as unpleasant, to me, as tobacco. That sickly smell (which is everywhere these days, it seems) makes me really nauseous.

If that's what a group wants that's their business, but it ain't for me.
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

Blazing Donkey

Quote from: HombreLoboDomesticado;495567I can imagine that stuff like coke, speed or xtc would have pretty disastrous effects on gameplay, and so would hallucinogens.

Coke & Speed would be bad.

Ecstasy wouldn't affect the game play (or running) it any more than pot, but if you're rolling on X, you wouldn't want to play in the first place.

If you were on, acid or shrooms, you wouldn't be able to play at all.

Two of the symptoms of CNS drugs are verbosity and excessive focus. Seems like that might actually help a GM.

Of course, the other symptoms will eventually hurt. Paranoia, heart failure, etc.

The Emern game is set in South America, so it seemed appropriate. Kaldric is correct that verbosity, confidence and focus are all increased at mild doses.

Back in university, our DM fell in the shower the day before game time and broke two fingers. The hospital gave him Percocet for the pain, splinted the fingers and sent him home. The next day when we played, he was drinking and taking the Percocets while running the game, and it was a pretty hilarious, if disjointed, session. It ended with him passing out at the conclusion of a climactic fight which gave it sort of a cliffhanger feel.
