Quote from: BedrockBrendan;495592I think it is about the same as any other RPG forum. I don't drink, smoke or do drugs myself.

I joke!

Machinegun Blue

There aren't any smokers in my current group. I've had maybe a total of two smokers in past groups. They were ok with smoking outside. Made for needing smoke breaks but that's ok.

Alcohol is fine. It loosens me up when I GM. I used to be in a group that would share a few beers every game. Then came the whining teetotalers and then the guy who couldn't stop when he started. Don't play with them anymore. So, drinking isn't a regular thing in the current group except when the host has finished a new batch of his home brew.

I consider myself a teetoler but if someone wants to drink around me it isn't a problem. I like to eat healthy too but if someone wants to eat a deep fried big mac, it's no skin off my back. Some people get too evangelical with their diet and health habits.

Ghost Whistler

Quote from: HombreLoboDomesticado;495567I must say that apart from coffee, tea, tobacco, alcohol and pot I haven't experienced any drug use at the game table. Has anybody else here? I can imagine that stuff like coke, speed or xtc would have pretty disastrous effects on gameplay, and so would hallucinogens.

I don't care what people ingest so long as it affects noone else, but i refuse to game with people that disrespect me and their fellow players by showing up stoned, drunk or whatever. That's massively selfish. Besides people that are stoned are as much fun to be with as a dogturd.
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

And getting drunk or stoned during a game is just asking to have that session written off. I'm not a fan of game night going from D&D to, "Hey, Bob's getting drunk off his ass."

Honestly, I've never seen this happen with pot or booze. As with anything moderation is key.

Yes it is. It happened once and after that Bob was no longer allowed to drink at the table.

Never had a rowdy outbreak or players too incompetant to play. Had one player too high to play one time. Wasn't a big deal, he just said he wouldn't do it again and followed the party along and rolled dice when the other players or I instructed him to do so.

After that it was groovy. This was with much green smokeys at almost every session, and drinking for myself (as GM) and one or two others. WE didn't party to excess, but it allowed us to loosen up a bit.

I am a teetotaller, which is to say that I do not drink boozeahol or huff goofballs.  Thankfully, all my gaming friends are conscientious, polite bunch of slovenly ne'er-do-wells, and they have the courtesy and presence of mind to not so that stuff when they come over to game.

WHEN they come over to game.

Heh, Jolly Blackburn has done this in KODT a couple of times, in that case, it is Brian...

My players generally have no problem having beer during a game, since its very rare that anyone get too far out of hand with their drinking, though it has happened once or twice.  A bigger deal I used to have was with my brother, a huge pot-head, who would get shitfaced stoned before or during a game and become pretty fucking useless in it.

I myself have never been "under the influence" (if by that you mean actually drunk or high) when I ran or played in a game.

Players who have really lost control of their faculties, be it from beer, weed, or 4chan, are not particularly good to have at the table in my experience, and I strongly discourage it.

I have a player who does this. He's not useless, but he cannot always keep track of what is going on and frequently forgets shit. Sadly, though, he's the same way when he's not stoned. However, he makes up for it somewhat with enthusiasm. And I have another payer who has basically taken it upon himself to nurse him through the rough spots.

By far the worst of the three.

I've had a drink or two before a game plenty of times with no problems, and so have the rest of my group. Sometimes it even helps!

I agree that getting steaming drunk beforehand is not a great idea though. Unless you're playing Rifts, obviously :)
