This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Yes, but you've been having trouble with the plasma shielding unit ever since you snatched it out of an untended armory when hostilities were suspended.  You get a funny, uncomfortable feeling in your groin whenever you take it out of its special lead-lined carrying case.  Maybe it's just your imagination, though...

There's nothing funny about robots, you filthy Humanist.

I pop open a canister of Cool Fun and some Algae Chips.  That always restores my vigor!  I mean, what's your groin for, anyway?  Is 'groin' even a word?  S'probably a treasonous word...you feeling well, Citizen?  Gee, I'd just hate to have to, you know, be the one to write you up.  But my duty is my duty, and I'll gladly do it for the well-beingof Alpha Comp--

Whoa.  Tangent.

I prefer the leaner characters with broader skill applications from Book 1 and Supplement 4, but I'm totally open to adopting the additional skills from Mercenary and High Guard to Book 1 characters.  Realistically, though, as this is a PbP game, you could feasibly use any character creation method as long as I have an idea of what your UPP is and what general skills you can bring to the table.  In other words, make a character that gives you a firm idea of who you want to play and that I can understand, then we'll set the character sheet aside for reference only.

I lean toward Gerrard, but I'd like to see some of the characters others will come up with.  I won't cheat you out of the Type A Free Trader, but I will reinterpret the mustering out benefit considerably -- being offered this mothballed merchant ship will probably be your prize.

Sten is a bit over-confident and prone to take risks; this came to the attention of his superior officers when he applied for re-enlistment at the end of his first term.  Subsequenty, he was mustered out.  Speaking later to his unit's captain, Paal Gessle, Sten learned why he was turned down.  This has had an impact on Sten's view of himself; he knows he has potential but finds himself too eager to prove it.  He's at a crossroads: Does he play it safe and stay alive, or take risks in life and test his own limits?

anyone got a link to other PbP examples?  i'd like to do this too, but i've never done it and wouldn't want to blow the narrative/etc.

Here's an example of a D&D game we had going a few months back:

It's really not difficult to get into the groove.  Just keep in-character posts separate from out-of-character posts, and most of the mechanics are handled behind the scenes by me.  You're entirely welcome to join in if you'd like.

thanks, let me go look at those before i commit.  :keke:

Ian, I'm really interested in this.  The weekend's been a total bear, just getting things done around the house.  I start my new job tomorrow, and after a few days will hopefully have a better idea of what my schedule is going to be like.

Can I let you know by the end of the week or so if I'll be able to participate?

If you guys want to start soon, don't wait for me, and I can always figure out a way to jump in later.

Is Sten OK?  He's from Durendal.
