This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Spinachcat;476956Gamma World 1e suggested Initiative in order of DEX score. Hero has their action phase system and Palladium has their attack/action economy.

I prefer group initiative. 1D6 for PCs, 1D6 for Monsters, ties go to heroes, if you lose init, you hand the die to the next player, if you win init, you roll for next round.

I actually like that. The only thing I would change would be to have ties cause both sides to act simultaneously. On the following round, initiative would be rerolled by both Monsters and PCs. The result of that roll then determines the order of initiative for the rest of the combat, unless a tie is rolled again, in which case, initiative would be rolled again by both sides the following round. But otherwise, I like what you wrote there.

I'm really taken with the way WFRP 3 handles initiative.

Each individual and monsters (or groups of monsters) rolls for initiative.   But these just setup initiative slots.  The group then decides which hero acts on which slot from round to round and the GM does the same for the NPC's

This allows for a nice layer of strategy without having to roll initiative each round.  So just because the speedy elf always rolls the best initiative if it's more advantages for the slow fighter to go first, he can.
