This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The ENnie judges...

Quote from: Mr. AnalyticalI suggested this a while ago as it felt in tune with the vibe of the forum.  My other forum does one for British comedy called the Comedy Tumbleweed awards.

It would be great fun to do, I can hear Bruce Baugh complaining about people needing to be more positive even now.

If anything, the problem is that there's just too much garbage out there to properly crawl through all of it, plus the inevitable flamewars but that's just good fun.

My key concern here would be to stop it being a kicking of indie rpgs, personally I'd like to kick a lot more than that.

Most disempowering metaplot

Quote from: BalbinusYeah, where it breaks down is that each nominated book would be the labour of love by some guy probably not that different to any of us, a fan who's project went wrong.

See, now that would suck.  I may be a fairly rotten human at times, but I would feel awful about that.

What makes this different to the Razzies is the balance of power.  It seems perfectly just to mercilessly mock some idiots who spent dozens of millions on something that turned out to be complete shit... taking the piss out of something produced y a guy with a laptop for 2 cents a word and no ownership of the copyright seems a bit unfair.

Maybe if the RPG industry was a bit less exploitative it would feel better.  Alternatively you could limit it to companies in the top 5 of Ken Hite's list.  I'd have no problem taking the piss out of WW or Mongoose.

EDIT : Actually, the Indie RPGs would probably be fair game up to a point, especially the relentlessly smug forgies.  But I think it would be better to stick to bigger companies and therefore people would be more likely to recognise the products.

Nicephorus

NTL had some non-serious/worst of award for a couple of years then it petered out.

It doesn't have to be just worsts, it could be things like:

Cheesiest cover art
Most improbable weapon
biggest EGG fanboy.
most dice used
highest number of character stats

Pierce Inverarity

This could be fun.

Highest number of polearms in equipment section

Worst insult to legacy of Fafhrd & Mouser

Biggest font

Most ambitious (teehee) use of photoshopping for artwork

Fantasy Imperium and the MRQ Lankhmar book, could those be the first two you are thinking of by any chance?

Quote from: SettembriniI´m still not over the Jeff Ranger Fanclub, so I´m not happy to see him in. But that´s totally emotional and not backed up by much rationality.

I have a Fanclub? :woop:

And how did I draw such ire from you? I mean, have we crossed paths in the past or something?

You definitely do.

No, I´m not angry at you, I barely know you.

So, how´s the judging process this year? Anything you can tell us?

Well, still plowing through the reading (which is always a time-eater), but progress is being made.

We got this wooden ship thing submitted in the Best Aid and Accessory category that has multiple, removable decks, masts, spars and such...all laid out with 1" grids for minis.

It is fucking awesome :win:

One suprise was this thin little chapbook game about Fairy Tales by Robin Laws (et. al.). It' subject matter that I usually don't like, but this one is really well-executed and packed with a ton of hints for tailoring it to play with kids.

That one's got a few extra looks.

We got this one product called Qin by a company I've never heard of before, about Mythic China...it's fantastic in just about every category.

Was there anything you were looking for specifically?

Abyssal Maw

That wooden ship thing is awesome. One of the guys in my group got the wooden tiles from that guy last year, and we all looked at the ship.
Download Secret Santicore! (10MB). I painted the cover :)

Qin is great in every aspect. I would be verus surprised if it didn't make the final cut.

I have to agree about Qin. Failing to give Qin due props would cement the Ennies as a joke, once and for all.
