This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Well considering that I haven't had anybody show up and not allow me to play what I want yet.  Plus I haven't seen any 'gamer gangs' ever.  A loud and obnoxious few that try to get everybody into what they are into while slinging insults about everything else?  Now that I've seen.

I'm right there with you on this.  There is no war, only a few folks with swollen or bruised ego's being loud.

I've lost count of the number of times I've visited gamers houses, local gaming clubs and conventions and menacingly prevented people playing the game they want. Hey, there was the time when this 13 year old lad, him and his friends just wanted to play through Keep On The Borderlands! But no! Me and my indie gaming gang threw his books in the road, danced on his spectacles and then beat him with a copy of My Life With Master!*

A gang? Seriously? I have a hard time believing that one. Do you genuinely believe the comparison you made there?

Cheers
Malcolm

See, this is where things get silly.  Gangs?

And it's so easy to bat down that it's unwise to even put it out there.

And it lets people off the hook. I don't know malcom from adam, so I don't know what he's done. But does he deride other peoples games, even implicitly (and then try to cover it with the "hey, everybody's fun is cool with me" bit)? Does he actively attempt to shift the belief that D&D is mainstream and that what people really want, if they only knew better and weren't slaves to marekting, is this story game with dispersed narrative responsibiilty he's got to sell over here? Is he trying to tell the people playing DitV that they aren't playing a real RPG - and that DitV would be better as d20 - the only real game?

If not, he's not a swine.  If so, he is.  Simple, really.

Which is why "gangs" is such an inappropriate analogy.

The Swine are more like "commies," out to destroy our precious bodily fluids. Or maybe even "ter-rists".

Dude, when you use the word "spectacles" you immediately give away your intellectual elitism. Just sayin'.

I must be The Jets then. No, dammit, I wanted to be The Sharks! Drat, our colours must be mauve and magenta. Those just so don't go with my skin tones.

If you switch mauve with a nice burgandy, and replace magenta with a neutral creme color, then you'll find the colors even out much nicer.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

And you'll be perfectly suited for gaming in the late 80's! Ask Doc!

EDIT: I retract.  I misread and thought you would end up with Magenta and cream, not burgundy and cream.  My apologies.

Ian, I think the analogy explains Pundit's POV (which was the whole point of my post). If you want to switch "gang" for something more fitting, by all means go ahead.

EDIT: Basically, Pundit believes someone is out to ruin his fun. Should he do nothing about it because "it's just a game"? Once you understand his core motivation, you can also understand (but not necessarily agree) with his actions.
