This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Levi KornelsenPersonally, I'm not shocked by the resentment.

But I sure do question the targeting.

Well, it's not as haphazard as it seems.

The thing is, thats just how collectives work. If your'e going to promote as a collective and take specific pains to be identified with the collective in order to sell items, then you have to answer for everything anyone does in the name of the collective.

There are (you know just as well as I do) plenty of people who made sure not to be identified with that collective. And they don't attract any ire about it, either. Another option is, when some jackass starts spouting off about the movement, you should now realize that you might be held accountable for his words. Have a talk with that jackass, or consider encouraging him to go off on his own.

If you want to be an individual, be an individual.

Except that there isn't one "indie" or Forge group or collective.  There are many, all of them quite distinct.

I'm not sure how this matters. If they aren't associated with a big swine movement, than they won't have to worry about any conflict with us.

You ever hear anyone complain about Matt Forbeck? I haven't.

You know why? Because he's a decent human being.

Well that was fun.

I feel like I have now heard Pundit explicitly say many things that I always sorta half-suspected, but was never sure about.  Contrariwise, some of the things I thought he believed, I was flat out wrong about.  Useful, useful talk.

I'm really glad to get back into being able to discuss this with more people, though.  It was getting a little repetitive, with just me and Pundit.

That is true. Matt is indeed a very nice bloke (he gave me free beer as well!). So is Vincent Baker. So is Joshua Newman, TonyLB, Judd Karlman, Jason Morningstar, Emily Care Boss, Paul Czege and many, many other people who all produce their own games.

I've met all of them, had drinks with them, hung out. They are all good people. Decent human beings, to use your turn of phrase.

Cheers

Oh jesus. You just listed "I'm redefining fun as meaning 'thematic'" guy, "beat poet jackass", "Mentos Commercial guy", "stealth-marketing disguised as actual play"-guy, the guy who never played D&D, yet wrote two games to spoof and insult it's players, (I don't recognize Emily, so she gets a pass), and then "my game teaches you how to get out of codependent relations"-guy.

Jesus fucking christ. Next time just say "Chad Underkoffler" and I'll go "yeah thats a cool guy, I like his stuff".

Cool.  We've got nicknames! :D

But why "Mentos Commercial Guy"?  It's such a mouthful.  Can't I be just ... The Freshmaker?  Or maybe just Tony-Fresh!

Dammit Tony, I want a nickname too! I guess I'll probably just be the Short Scottish Guy. Again. :-)

After seeing you all but sink your choppers into someone during your demo at GenCon ("And then he jumps at you, and he's got these really nasty green teeth dripping pus and shit, and he BITES INTO YOUR SHOULDER!" with LARP accompaniment) I've thought of you as "Mr. Teeth."  How's that?

That would suit my Dad better. He was a dentist, after all.

Mr Teeth! Sounds like the bad guy in a chop-socky movie. Possibly with titanium teeth than can bite through a mans arm. Until he gets killed by the hero in the second to last reel, leaving the way open to the Big Boss...

We could form a gang! The Freshmaker, Mr Teeth, Beat Poet Guy...should we get t-shirts made up for Gen Con?

Cheers
