This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Oh, shit. It's official, now. I'm Swine.

See, I was watching an Inside the Actor's Studio - I find the host a repellent kiss-ass and would like him to die in a fire, but the guest was Samuel L. Jackson - and they described his role in Do The Right Thing as "the Greek chorus of the film". So I spent the rest of the weekend trying to figure out if it was a viable device for GMing. I thought I just wanted to make things more interesting for my players with a unique spin, but apparently if I'd actually asked online I'd have been trying to get Vincent Baker to give me a handjob for my brilliance or something.

Damn. At least I get to keep my d10s.

Something tells me Pundit doesn't know a lot of gamers. Those geeks will talk about anything at the drop of the hat, including Eisenstein (if they've heard of him) and the new FF movie, probably in the same conversation if you wait long enough.

And anyone else get the impression that his resume at the end of that last post was made up on the spot?

A moment of reflection, please.

I think we've reached a point now where every regular poster on therpgsite has at some point or other either been accused of being, or in fact confessed to being, Swine.

I submit the site be given a new name that speaks to that fact.

I don't doubt it.  He's mentioned the Masonic Memorial debate multiple times on his blog.  And it wouldn't be that hard to verify.  The worldwide membership of Freemasonry may be large, but it would only take a call or two to one's local Grand Lodge to get a contact at the Uruguayan Grand Lodge. That level of communication happens all the time when verifying the credentials of travelling brethren.  From there it would only be couple of calls to be put in touch with someone involved with the debate.

Heck, in this strange internet era it might be even easier to just google the Uruguayan Grand Lodge.

Which would, at best, prove that the same guy won those years. Unless Pundit wants to send someone his real name that doesn't mean much. edit: and no, I'm not suggesting he do that.

I'm not saying they are made up, just that his style of making easily falsifiable claims and using bullying tactics rather than logic don't strike me as someone with that record. They also felt very tacked on, like a kid saying "nuh uh! I did so go to the Grand Canyon this Summer" when another kid calls him on it on the playground.

Maybe I just don't understand Uruguayan debate, or maybe (more likely IMO) he doesn't act in real life like he acts here. In either case though, his tactics in arguments on this board do not jive with my conception of how one wins a formalized debate (i.e. logic and evidence over petulance and assertion of unprovable truths).

Dude, those debates only exist in schools. Everywhere else it's an elegant blend of logic and sophistry.

Which also only goes to further prove that there really is no such thing as "Swine", because the label doesn't actualyl mean anything.

I find the whole definition of Swine to be funny since Pundit really fits the definition to a T.  He is Elitist, he looks down on other gamers (instead of Acknowledging that there are people who play different things that are still in the same hobby and that is fine).

Not to mention the "Their out to subvert our hobby" paranoia he spouts.  It's tinfoil paranoia to say the least.

The Pundit is the Pundit and that's fine.  He likes D&D and D20 and I do not, I don't begrudge that (to each his own).  But when he spouts his weird paranoia that is something I cannot stand and I feel I need to speak out.   The rest I can ignore

I'm more than happy for everyone to be swine. Its a level playing field.

If everyone understand that all the debate is self serving slagging off of other people to make yourself feel big its far easier to decode the conversation.

I've been called a lot of things - Swine ain't one of them.

OK...so let's clear the air a bit.

Do those of you who are sarcastically admitting to swinedom:
  • Are you saying there are no pretentious fucktards who walk around telling people they are having badwrongfun?
  • If no, have you read The Forge at all?
  • If yes, do you disagree with Pundit's definition on the grounds that it's about pretention?
  • If no, well, then I guess these questions don't apply.
  • If yes, is there any possible definition you would provide to define a group of pretentious fucktards who believe their approach is better?

I'm not trying to be antagonistic, I'm really curious.  I'd guess that most everyone could point to a group of fucktard thay don't like in the RPG/Theory Internet world - what makes them fucktards to you?
