This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

RPGPundit

Attention all,

This is the authorized thread in which you are allowed to advertise for your gaming special event (con, etc) and put advertisements up for your FLGS (that's "friendly local gaming store"; in case there's someone out there who still doesn't know).

This is the only place where blatant ads are permitted, but of course this being theRPGsite and not some other site, we'll be pretty liberal about you choosing to pimp your wares/place/event in other threads, so long as it doesn't turn into blatant spamming, off topic thread-derailing, or an overall annoyance.

So, "ad" away...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
//www.YourGamesNow.com Open for Business

(Dallas, Tx; January 1, 2007) Your Games Now LLC has launched a cooperatively-run web site where publishers sell electronic products designed with tabletop gaming in mind, found at //www.YourGamesNow.com.

"YourGamesNow.com is a wonderful opportunity for publisher and customer alike," says Joseph Browning, President of Your Games Now LLC. "Publishers have a financial stake in the health of the site through profit-sharing, and customers know every purchase benefits not only the company that produced the material, but every company at the site. When the site performs well as a whole, every individual publisher on the site does better. This means customers are supporting publishers more-directly and that results in continued creation of exciting gaming material. Shopping at YourGamesNow.com is almost like buying direct from each and every publisher selling on the site."

Mr. Browning further explained, "There is no other site where company A makes more money on the products they sell because a customer purchased a product from company B. I think this kind of cooperative profit-sharing will result in better products. Competition is always good for a customer because it results in more products to choose from, and for the first time, that same competition is also beneficial to publishers through profit-sharing. At YourGamesNow.com, cooperation and competition are not exclusive. By providing their publishers a direct voice in the management of the site, YourGamesNow.com ensures that what's good for the site is also good for the publishers and, therefore, customers."

At launch, customers can find products from the following companies: ØOne Games, Arion Games, ComStar Media LLC, Dog Soul Publishing, Expeditious Retreat Press, Fiery Dragon Productions, Goodman Games, Hinterwelt Enterprises, Ki Ryn Studios, Majestic Twelve Games, Misfit Studios, Victory by Any Means Games, and The Le Games. Our team at Fouruglymonsters.com has decided to help move the gaming industry forward by producing an internet gaming convention on March 24 & 25 of this coming year. This has been done before so you may ask why we would attempt this venture, the reason is simple.

We see the future in online gaming, specifically Virtual Gaming Table applications such as Fantasy Grounds, MapTool, Battlegrounds, Kloogle.Werks, and others out there. These applications push the envelope of gaming and bring gaming to a large gaming audience already present on the web. It is also ushering a large return of those gamers who have moved on in their lives, now have a family and cannot get away for the weekly game. These 'mid-life' gamers are looking for ways to reconnect with their friends and their beloved hobby. These applications are enabling them and creating strong growth in the industry.

Along with the virtual gaming table applications, the recent growth of applications geared directly for gamers has increased. Applications such as PCGen, Dundjinni, Campaign Cartographer, Redblade, and e-Tools have ushered in a great new era of gaming, providing gamers with previously unknown power to unleash their creativity.

Already we have seen a stunning amount of support from many of the developers behind these applications and many have pledged support in the form of free products for door prizes, demonstrations of their applications, interviews with the development staff, and advertising on their websites.

Our mission statement:
Our goal is to bring attention to the various Virtual Game Table and Gaming software products available to gamers wanting to capture the feel of live role-playing games when separated by physical boundaries.

Please check out the convention's official site at iconvention.org

Animalball Brasky

Everything's Free at Animalball Games!

After many months of studying the market, spending dozens of dollars on various demographic studies, and reviewing the balances in their checking accounts, Animalball Games has decided to start offering its products for free download.  Games that had previously been for sale through RPGNow, like the Steadfast Shield and Sandbox Hill, are now available for free download.

Animalball Co-Founder Kyle Jones stated, "We stuck with a 'traditional' business model for nearly two years, but realized we just weren't making any money selling pdfs of our games through the internet.  After consulting with some of the greatest entrepreneurs in the rural midwest, we decided to go to a radically different business model-- volume, volume, volume.  Our advisors concluded that we could move far more product if we reduced the price.  We figured that nothing's lower than free, so we can really expect to move large volumes of product under our new business model."

Animalball's other Co-Founder, Mike Jones, added, "We're still creating great roleplaying games and over the next few weeks we'll roll out several more games that were originally intended for retail.  But we decided that getting people to actually play our games was more important than making money.  We decided that we do this because we enjoy it, not because we want to get rich from it."

Animalball Games is a small, independent publisher of free, unique games that do not fit the traditional mold of "mainstream" rpgs. When developing its products, ABG heavily depends on the assistance of its online community to give feedback, input and playtesting help. It is ABG's philosophy that the best games are those developed by the gamers themselves.

Grand Tribunal 2007
Saturday November 17th
Cheltenham, UK
A Festival of Ars Magica

Including a freeform ars larp, ars boardgames, ars rpg sessions, medieval music and food and a Ars raffle of rarities!

People are welcome to arrive on the Friday night, and I will ensure that those staying till Sunday have plenty to do, but the main events are on the Saturday. It's possibly the first Ars Magica dedicated rpg convention ever, unless you know better?

If you plan to come do sign up in the Planning to Attend thread! And do tell us your ideas or what you would like to see at the event.

Getting here
Trains from BRISTOL, CARDIFF and BIRMINGHAM are frequent, and all three have good AIRPORTS. A return railway ticket from these locations is currently about 18 Euro, and the trip takes under an hour and is simple with frequent trains. STANSTED and HEATHROW connect to Cheltenham via National Express coaches, but services are infrequent and difficult, and trains from London are expensive. From London Cheltenham is one and a half to two hours via car - M4 to Swindon turn off, then Cirencester, then Cheltenham. By bus there are many cut price deals available, and hopefully lifts can be arranged via the website when I get that far...

Accomodation
There will be some sleeping bag only floorspace accommodation for those happy to rough it, but very good hotel accommodation can be had for 60 euros a night, including breakfast. Bed & Breakfast is much cheaper, starting at around 22 Euros a night.

Planned Itinerary - subject to change

Friday 16th - Ars Pub Meet - down the pub to talk Ars, with a folk band, a storyteller, and good real ale! Gaming space available.

Saturday 17th --GRAND TRIBUNAL

Morning session 10am - 1pm - gaming space, board games, medievalist talks, general discussion!

Lunch 1-2pm

Afternoon Session 2.30pm till 7.30pm
Choose from
* Ars rpg sessions
* Ars board games
* Ars Freeform Tribunal LARP

8pm Late Dinner - with Ars Panel discussion! Harass authors as they eat! Throw bread rolls at them for what they did to your fave house or tribunal! Also the Raffle for Ars and Atlas rarities is drawn

9pm till late - the Night session
Late night gaming, singing of Festive songs down the phone to David Chart , burning of authors you don't like in effigy, beer, and well Ars Magica or other Atlas games!

Sunday Morning - the hangover session

8am till 12 noon - last minute gaming, meet for breakfast and general shopping for neglected WAGS and S'O's. Or last minute rpg gaming - you decide!

Animalball Brasky

The official line for our new stuff:

Four for the price of one! That's right:four simultaneous releases from Animalball Games. And they're all for the price of one-- nothing! Because everything's free at Animalball Games.

We've done a little housecleaning here at Animalball, and found a few tidbits tucked under the sofa cushions. These are four items that have been around forever here at Animalball, but for one reason or other have never become a full release:

Hero Battle
Bulldrek, the RPG
God's Dice
Legacy of Justice

Hero Battle: Hero Battle is a forum-based game of cutthroat strategy for eight or more players. The rules are deceptively simple—however game play is anything but.

Bulldrek, the RPG: Once upon a time, there was a free and untamed forum called Bulldrek. In its early days, Bulldrek was home to some of the most bizarre and wondrous group storytelling experiences ever. Bulldrekkers collaborated in seemingly haphazard fashion to cobble together stories of wild fantasy that crossed all genres and respected no boundaries. It seemed that the Bulldrek characters were drawn to destroy and humiliate each other at every turn, and yet somehow mostly-coherent tales emerged from the jumble. Great legends and everlasting inside jokes were born, gods walked amongst the Bulldrek, and everyone... everyone... had a good time. This is the face-to-face version of that game. (Age appropriate beverages not included.)

God's Dice: "God does not play dice with the universe." –Albert Einstein

Very simply, God's Dice is the greatest unfinished sci-fi campaign world ever! Emphasis is on "unfinished." The God's Dice campaign world is my take on the solar system 1,000 years in the future, in a setting where faster-than-light travel is still just fantasy, and despite finding itself still alone in the lonely universe, mankind has managed to diversify itself into a stunning array of forms. Mostly a collection of notes and conversations, this unfinished document is being shared for all who might take inspiration from it.

Legacy of Justice:  Just like God's Dice, this one is very much a work in progress. Legacy of Justice is the second of Mike's unfinished worlds. As he says, "It started from just three words: my brother called me up one day and said, 'I've got it! I know what our next project needs to be: Post-apocalyptic superheroes!' Okay... so maybe post-apocalyptic is only one word. But anyway, I was blown away. So here we've collected snippets of description that give a feel for this shattered earth."

LEVI IS DISTRIBUTING A GAME BY ONLINE MEME...
Most books and games are distributed by means of stores.  Some through online publication.  This, right here, is an attempt at distribution-by-online-meme.  The "leaf" picture above is a clickable link; if you click on it, you will download a PDF book.  The book is an extremely simple, introductory tabletop roleplaying game entitled Microcosm, one meant to show the reader through play what a tabletop roleplaying game is, and to show off a few little ideas to people who already play such games.  To use it, you'll need at least one other person to play with, though a total of 3-4 people is usually best.  You'll also need a pen or pencil, some paper, and a bowl full of tokens (poker chips, pennies, whatever).  The game is in all ways free of charge.

...AND HE'D APPRECIATE YOUR HELP
Naturally, this is both a bit of an attention grab for the game being distributed, and a bit of an attempt to find out if distributing something in this way is even remotely viable.  So, if it strikes you as a neat idea, or you like this particular introduction to tabletop roleplaying, or you just want to use it as a conversation piece, please copy this entry into your online space.  The picture above is remotely located at:

 http://members.shaw.ca/LeviK/MicroIcon.jpg

And the link leads to:

http://members.shaw.ca/LeviK/MicroCosm.pdf

If you're willing to copy this meme, please use that same picture and link.  If you don't like spreading memes, fair enough; mentioning this attempt, and linking back to it, would be very much appreciated as well.
