This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Thanks for the link. Christ, it's like mainlining pure nostalgia. The attention to detail on the Moathouse model is incredible, it looks exactly as it appears in the module. I love the detachable roof sections, they allow for playing in whatever era of the ToEE's history you choose. Pure gold.

Revised M&M. Look for my completed house rules shortly. ;-) I love that system...I don't see a thing I have to change in the basic mechanics, I just need to add in the extra stuff to use it for D&D (spellcasting wizards, dwarves, elves, etc.).

It does get humid here in Mitchigoom.

I have a certain hatred of that damn moathouse, thanks to the number of times I died horribly in the computer version.

Clearly, some major old school creds have been lost today. Better not look on the sordid scene, folks. Move along.

I don't want to hijack the thread but one thing that keeps me wondering for years now is that I have never seen (in threads about 3D dungeons, miniatures, and dioramas) a mentioning of Lüdinn, the City of Myth and Illusion.

I can't be the only one who (during the nineties) stood all starry-eyed, year after year, before that huge thing at Gen Con.

Lüdinn is/was an AD&D2 campaign that was played at conventions. It was built (literally) around a huge model of the city that lent its name to the campaign. Narrow streets, bridges, city walls, towers and a cathedral -- most of which had detachable roofs and floors --, a dwarven undercity with rail tracks, lighting and flowing water... it was amazing. And the few pictures that are hosted on their homepage (last edited Dec. 2006?) don't do that beast justice.

Are they still active at Gen Con?

Ok, seems I am the only one here who has seen Lüdinn...

At Gen Con the makers sold a 20 page (or so) pamphlet that had campaign info, maps, and character generation stuff that seemed to be modeled after the RPGA Living City / Raven's Bluff character primer of that time.

That pamphlet was ... strange. It was a weird mixture of early DTP formatting, hand-written portions, and crude-but-impressive illustrations (and badly-scanned photos). That booklet was made of pure and unadultered gonzo-ness - the Endrow (sic!) world map was a crude sketch showing a view "from orbit", complete with a spikey drow(?) spaceship.

I didn't experience the gonzo-ness of Arduin Grimoire; I have seen the brown books at game stores in the eighties but for some reason that excapes me I never even considered looking at them. But through this Lüdinn stuff I at least can imagine what must have been the draw of Arduin.
This xeroxed booklet is definitely one of the most cherished treasures of my RPG collection -- despite the fact that I personally abhor settings that mix fantasy and SF in such a way, this booket is a testament to the sheer fun the Lüdinn people had with their campaign.
