This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

RPG books weigh 1,400 lbs. What is yours?

Quote from: Omega;862207One nice thing about RPGs is that the books tend to be just about the same size and stack or shelve well. You get some oddities. But in general unlike board games which are all over the size scale, RPG books have maintained some basic dimensions.

My 5e D&D book is about the same dimensions as my AD&D one. The PHB is a little thicker. But otherwise close to the same.

That is a very good point as far as space and a fair amount of consistency in RPG book size/shape. Considering the first D&D books were half the size, booklets, it is interesting how much it standardized over so many years on the AD&D format.
The density of the books is higher than most board games of course.

Quote from: Willie the Duck;860827rpgresearch, what is the purpose of this thread?

I just assumed it was sharing - amazement about the number of RPG books someone could easily accumulate.

Quote from: Willie the Duck;860827Is there a question you wanted answered or something you wanted to discuss?

As a piece of advice, starting this thread with, "Hey all, I just wanted to share this project I'm working on because I think you'll get a kick out of it." or something to that effect would make people more likely to take this thread as is. Then people might come back with, "looks like fun."

Oh, and not title it along the lines of 'mine's this big. what about you' Yeah, that wasn't good.

I must have taken it in the spirit in which it was meant, so I enjoyed the post.

There seems to be a lot of bitter people reading/posting in this thread.

Quote from: rpgresearch;861876What do you do as far as use, care, feeding, storage, transport, with it all?

Use - I read as many as I can, and use interesting bits from across the collection as often as possible.

Care - Microfiber duster. Bags and backing boards for some items.

Feeding - The blood of the innocent.

Storage - Lots of sturdy bookcases.

Transport - As infrequently as possible. When necessary, Rent-A-Crates are best.

I only have what I use. I try and donate what I don't

I was making my own PDF copies or books awhile back-so that I could minimize the weight of my own RPG collection. I've never weighted mine but right now its probably around less than 75lbs.

I write stuff occasionally-so I only have things I use for ideas, formatting and the like.

My wife being a highly educated woman probably had over 1000lbs of books when we got married. A couple of moves into it she was kind enough to reduce the strain of moving all those danged books.

When I was in high school I had a lot more but I don't think my collection has ever exceeded 100lbs-its just not practical for me.

One thing I do is I put all of my books and boxed sets in magazine folders so when I slip them out of the shelves all the other books stay nice and upright.  It also makes moving much quicker and easier.  I use the Ikea cardboard magazineholders.  It works nicely for me.
