I looked into it.  I didn't end up picking it up due to the lack of art in the book.  The fuss, from where I'm sitting is a bunch of white people trying to tell me, a non white, what should offend me.  I heard murmuring the author is some white supremacist racking up guns for some race war he imagined. Is there any truth to that at all or is it pure hyperbole?

I'm not sure there's anything he's done that would indicate he holds racist views. He does hold strange anti-modern, pagan views and wants organised modern religion destroyed, and it seems he'd be perfectly ok with Christians, Muslims, Jews etc ... dying as part of a war on modern religion (he definitely supports the firebombing of churches). There was a period in time where he openly embraced elements of Nazism, but has since walked back that stance. As best I can tell, his main problems with Nazism are the parts focused on racial purity.

Bottom line for me is the guy is definitely a douche. No idea what his skills are like as a game designer, but he was one of the key figures in the emergence of Black Metal as musical genre.

Lords of Chaos is a movie about him and Euronymous and the early days of Black Metal (including the associated murders and church burnings) that is worth a watch if you're interested. I have a friend who's pretty heavily into Black Metal, and he seems to think it provides a fairly balanced view, based on his understanding of the events that occurred.

I was perfectly aware of the game's racist undertones.  I considered getting it as a novelty.  "I own the racist RPG" type shit.  But then I heard of the lack of production values and I left it alone. As an American it's surprising a murderer/arsonist is walking around free.  Crazy Nords.  To touch on the original post, I'm against forces preventing the publication of books.  No matter how bad. I brought up the race war because this topic came up on TBP and some folks were trying to convince me buying the book would help make his fantasy a reality.

Has anyone here actually read it/played it and would admit to liking it?  The only person I've ever heard talking about it in any positive light is a Mexican YouTuber who's opinion I respect.  So it can't just be purely racist propaganda.

He "walks free" because he got sentenced to 21 years for the murder and arsons of which he served 16. Scandi countries serve prison time for different crimes concurrently with a chance of parole the last 1/3, so he sat 16 years.

21 years is the maximum penalty for any crime bar war crimes and genocide in the Norwegian crime system. Hell, even Breivik "only" got 21 years for 77 murders (although he wont get any parole and once 21 years is up, the court will decide whether he is ready to be released or whether he will get another 5 years. I predict a lot of +5 years in his future until he is so old that walking around a island with a rifle looking for kids to kill will more likely result in him falling down and breaking his own neck)

Along with the free speech right for the book to exist is the free speech right for everyone else to say why no one should buy it.*

Not saying yea or nay one way or the other on the guy.  Rather, you can find a lot more grievous examples of people being shutdown and called "Nazi" that aren't and shouldn't be.  Even within gaming.  If you can't convince people to not ban innocuous game distribution because the author didn't vote the right way to satisfy the mob, then where do you think you'll get with something harder?

* Given some abstract ideal of free speech as a right that is not consistent even in the Western developed world, neither geographically or how it is applied.  Turns out classical liberalism didn't live as long as God after all.

Well, I didn't buy the game; I just looked into it as much as I could online.  I tried to examine the game, independent of the creator.  Kind of like when I looked into 13th Age several times.

I've seen a lot of people rightly condemn the author's anti-semitism, neo nazism and general racism.

I've seen that same people refusing to buy/play his game.

I've yet to see anyone calling for his book to be burnt.

And I myself fall into the first two cathegories and I would still say his game should exist and people are free to buy/play whatever the fuck they want.

My condemnation of the author's views and of the blatant racism and Aryan supremacy injected in his game, therefore refusing to buy/play it don't constitute a call for the book being banned much less for burning it.
