This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: shooting_diceThe rest of the Ennies, the OAs and other also-rans are pointless for any number of reasons.

I disagree about the ENnies. The nominations often give the spotlight to low-profile products that may have flown under the radar otherwise.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

Yeah. They sell .pdfs. They're good for that. They are in the main useless for any other purpose. That's one thing people don't get when they criticise the OAs. As far as print is concerned, all awards are equally useless.

Speaking as a past ENnies judge, I can tell you that the only reason we nominated something was because we thought it was better than other products with which it was competing.

You weren't always a judge Colonel and a lot(maybe a few) products were pushed out due to more personal then substance reasons.  Often you would see from the far left field products just because it wasn't a WoTC product or some stupid shit like that.  I'll say for the most part over the years the Ennies were good but some really got the WTF? view.

I can only speak from my own experience, but I do know that the other judges during the times I was a judge didn't have an anti-WotC bias that I could identify. Plus, another thing to remember is that sometimes publishers simply don't enter, so what might seem like a no-brainer entry never even got a look because the publisher didn't bother to submit product. I think that many of the times that people go WTF? at a list of nominees is because they haven't seen the actual pool of entrants. I know that as a judge I was disappointed at times at the absence of this or that publisher or product, because I'd be thinking "damn, they had a good shot at winning." We had to work with what we had.
