This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Thought folks might be interested in this. Pen & Paper is holding their annual fan awards where you vote for your favorite RPGs, Authors, and a ton more categories for the best of 2005. The vote is write-in, so you aren't constrained by any nomination process. There's really not much for winning, but it's probably a nice warm fuzzy for the winner.

Oh, come now!  It's not a proper awards if there isn't drama over selecting judges, drama over nominations, and drama from gaming companies big and small!

This just has no potential to cause damage to the gaming community.  It's just not a proper type of awards at all!

Would it help if I asked everyone to send me crates of RPG product if they want to win anything? ;)

That would definitely help!  Hell, if you don't want to put a lot of effort into it, just doing that should be enough to start up a nice drama firestorm.  :)

Why that subject was such a sticking point is curious. Relying on the judges or the general public to vote based on what they've bought will really narrow down possible winners, and will give industry juggernaut WotC a big advantage. Some say "so? At least the public got to vote." My reply is that awards like that could simply be given out based on sales figures, then, and the pretense of an awards procedure dispensed with. The public voted with its wallet; why make 'em vote again?

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won\'t throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

T-Willard

I don't get all the drama around the awards.

Shit, couldn't you just picture me disentagling from face sucking on some woman, zipping up my pants, staggering up to the stage with a bottle of Wild Turkey in my hand, accepting the award, drunkenly slurring some crap, then later hucking the award at some fucker on the street and screaming profanity?

Shit oh dear, that would be probably how it went.
I am becoming more and more hollow, and am not sure how much of the man I was remains.

Roudi

Good thing too, I voted you up in a couple categories.  Guess I better get a bottle of Wild Turkey ready.

Bagpuss

I am offically boycotting these awards, since I never got my free review copies. Now, I'm off to sulk. :muttering:

Rasyr has been an asshat on many occasions, with his "hat of d20" and proselytizing for HARP (cool game but the guy promotes it by bashing another game system), but I have to sympathize with him on this. If he was supposed to get stuff to review, and didn't get it, how is he supposed to do the job if he gets called on as an alternate?

Thankfully, Pen & Paper isn't GAMA.

Thankfully it also isn't the ENnies.  Not that I've got something against ENWorld or anything (it IS the place where I sell my products), but it really friggen sucks to have to take a PDF and burn 5 copies of it to CD, then pay for postage for each copy to the US (I'm Canadian), for a free product that's available right on the very site where the awards are being hosted.

Meh.  What can I say?  It ain't fantasy, therefore it's got no shot.

I AM BEGGING YOU: ENTER THE ENNIES.:heh:

You can nominate him this year, Billy; I do believe they will accept nominations from persons other than the author/publisher of the work.

I'm a judge dude:)

I don't think I can nominate.

Maddman

Heh - someone should.  Hell, I'd buy your bottle of Wild Turkey mang.

Maybe we should do The Nutties again?  I'm sure we can come up with some good categories
