Post by: Tetsubo on October 23, 2009, 04:50:32 PM
Has anyone done a PF conversion of the Warlock? Thanks.

But if Pathfinder is as backward compatible as everyone says, why is there a need for a conversion?

EDIT: no snark intended, serious question

The two main differences are:

d4 hit dice are now d6

Starting skill points are equal to the points gained per level. Any class skill with one rank gains a +3 bonus.

Other than that, it should be the same. It was already a well made class from what I hear, so it shouldn't need the power up that Paladins and Fighters got.

Pathfinder classes also have More Nice Things. There are no dead levels. One thing I am thinking of doing with the Warlock is: Invocations every level (leave power levels as is), Eldritch Blast damage die as per Sneak Attack progression (allowing itinerant attacks), making the EB range Short (as per spells) at 1st level, increasing to Medium at 9th level and going Long at 16th. I don't know what the capstone 20th level ability should be though. Any thoughts?

I'm not super familiar with Warlock, so I can't really help too much with specifics.

Funny thing about Pathfinder's balance. I just got the Beastiary. CR 1 creatures from 3.0 that only had 6hp have 15 in Pathfinder. It isn't a universal trend, sense I also noticed that the Hill Giant has 25 fewer... though I think they gave him some feats.

Anyway, gl.

Curse you, I want my copy! :)

As others have said, the quick fix is upgrade the d6 HD to d8 to bring in line with Pathfinder progressions.

If you wanted to do a little extra work you might want to come up with a few more little cookies for the class. I would leave invocations alone but look at upping the resistances and DR a little.

Tetsubo >> PM me if you want me to email you a PDF I picked up somewhere or other. It has conversions of several classes, and might be of some use to you, even though I believe they are for the Beta, not the final release. It has been scanned for viruses, so it should be safe.
