Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Pathfinder Ultimate Campaign Question about Hex Sizes in Kingdom Building

I am going to be running a PF1 Kingdom building campaign in the Forgotten Realms. Since I am not making a map myself, I have to rely on what I can find online for the realms. I have found some really good maps using 6 mile hexes or 20 mile, which are about a third smaller or 3 times larger than 12 mile hexes used in the Ultimate Campaign rules.

So, when adjusting the size of the hex, how should I change the UC rules? OR should I even bother?

I'd say don't alter the rules. The big question is do you want more powerful nations or less powerful then the default pathfinder assumption.

You don't have to change a thing. What area of the Forgotten Realms do you need a 12 mile hex map for?...
Blackmoor grew from a single Castle to include, first, several adjacent Castles (with the forces of Evil lying just off the edge of the world to an entire Northern Province of the Castle and Crusade Society's Great Kingdom.

The whole thing? No, that's just me being hopeful. The Northwest quarter of the traditional 3E map would be ideal, we're not 100% where we're going to base the game.

Yeah, good point. I'm realizing that a bigger hex means that the kingdom size the PC's can manage successfully will be substantially larger or smaller depending on which hexsize I use.

Wow, that was easy. Here's a link to a 12 mile hexgrid map of the Northwest Realms!

Wow, thank you!!  This is great! What software did you use? If it possible, could you please make a 12 mile hex version of this whole map?

Ehh? ...I just found this online using Google-Fu. That is a Nice realms map! I have the old one that came in my 3rd edition Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide, also very nice.

Well, your google fu is clearly superior to my google fu.  ;D I had thought you made it yourself! Out of curiosity, do you have the link handy?

S'mon

Well I did it https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AUeFD6jEBpU/X1M0z1X8C_I/AAAAAAAAQSA/RoyLaiXitCkdTJasIJNayRDgWOsbxco-gCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/Sword-Coast-Map%2B12%2Bmiles%2Bper%2Bhex.jpg

But the limitations of Blogger upload mean you'll need to re-expand it eg in MSPaint to get it a decent size. Hopefully retains reasonable detail. I can email you the 15.1 MB jpg if you PM me.

Edit: Here's a second upload attempt looks a bit better https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8tSL-hyXSSY/X1M12Wib6JI/AAAAAAAAQSI/L_H-a6qB3TMWqkz5GECN4B-BzVMabjpdACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/Sword-Coast-Map%2B12%2Bmiles%2Bper%2Bhex.jpg
