Title: Pathfinder reviving 3.5E splatbooks
Post by: ggroy on August 09, 2009, 06:22:22 PM
What would be amusing is if Pathfinder actually revives demand for various WotC 3.5E splatbooks. Possible splatbooks of interest could be the various monster books, environmental settings (ie. frostburn, sandstorm, etc ...), races (ie. races of dragon, races of stone, etc ...), the "Complete" books, etc ....
Wonder if WotC would actually reprint any of them if there's significant demand for them. :p

About the same chance I give Stalin, Hilter and George W Bush winning the Nobel Peace Prize. (I'm doubtful they award it posthumously)

Maybe but that's not the same as WotC allowing for reprinting some of their 'old" 3.5 catalog.
I mean we already know for sure there will be a Warlock and Shaman 3rd party version by our good friends at Adamant Entertainment will be producing those along with a few others.

There does exist several "tainted" Nobel Prizes. In hindsight, they probably wouldn't have awarded them.

Honestly, I really can't.
The only emulation I ever saw during the heyday of the OGL was very broad strokes. E.G., a book about planes, a book about seafaring, etc. Unless you are retro-cloning, I don't see too many authors who are too eager to create a close approximation of another work. Generally, they're all about doing their own thing their own way.

Is there a run-down somewhere explaining the differences between PF and 3.5?

The title of this thread sucks. Please make them more descriptive in the future. Not just a word or some general name that doesn't say anything about its actual contents.
Speaking of contents, the differences between PF and 3.5 are mostly added class features to each class to round out the roaster, a +2 added to races, more straightforward skill selection/ranks and skills breakdown, simplified combat maneuvers under a single game mechanic/roll, and a few other minor alterations to the game.
That's based on the Beta, but that seems to hold in the final version. I haven't gotten my hands on the book yet, so it's hard to tell what made the final cut at this point and what didn't.

From the one review I've seen it looks like a document saying exactly what was changed from class to class would be helpful as some of them are highlighted in the book but not nearly enough. Unless the reviewer just missed a key or something. We'll all have a chance to find out Thursday. :)
Looking forward to it, myself.
As for reprints for 3.5e stuff ... that wass a joke, right? ;)

Paizo said they're releasing that pdf with the RPG.

I think you'd see a reprint of 3.5 books right after a reprint of AD&D1e books. IE, never.

Yeah, the Pathfinder folks to support their own game system!
Overall I don't think that many of the "big boys" are still supporting anything 3E. True20 is one, Pathfinder another, maybe you could throw Castles & Crusades into the mix (even though they are more old school and not directly 3E).
It would have to be a group that already supports 3E.

Now we just need to wait for 2010/2011 for there to be splat books. At least from Paizo's end anyway.
