SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So, how much do you spend on RPGs, what convinces you to spend money?

I tend to buy stuff based on feedback from other gamers i know and trust when it comes to knowing whats worth a read/play and whats utter drivel.
So far this year my gaming purchases come to about £70-80 for a ton of AD&D1e stuff from ebay(and a few lucky finds in local secondhand bookshops), that total will go up abit before the year is done as im planning to pick up Runequest 6 and a bunch of SWN stuff soon (the SWN stuff shouldnt be that pricey as its from drivethru and most will be in the xmas in july sale from tuesday) in total i reckon by years end my gaming purchases will come to about £150 give or take which is about twice my usual spend but given the amount of usefull information in just the AD&D books it's more than worth it.

Quote from: Philotomy Jurament;562725The other factor is that there is a huge amount of cool free stuff out there (DungeonDelvers stuff, Melan's stuff, Kellri's stuff, Jimm Johnson's stuff, et cetera).

Quote from: VectorSigma;562740This, forever this.  I've gotten more use out of free downloads, blog content, forum-discussion-sparked-ideas, etc than anything else lately.

There is a wealth of free stuff out there for gamers. I've just browsed the Paizo website and downloaded a huge number of free files, including the entire runs of two fanzine lines. It is like Christmas.
