Let's Talk about... Waste World!

Here is a game I love, a simple yet spiffy system, an alien world fallen to apocalypse and rising again via various factional city states. Some wield genetic mastery, others idealistic society and mad tech, and others survive in the wastes with robots, mutants, and psychomagus' by their side.

So, ask questions. Let's discuss this strange P-A game that seems to have missed most peoples raidars when it came out, but is often fondly thought of--I consider it the game,  Rifts dreams of growing up to be some day. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not an anti-Rifts guy. I like that game some too.)

I guess it's a bit of "the one that got away" sort of game for me.

I have the Waste World quickstart and it was pretty cool. By the time I figured I might want to give it a proper go it was already out of print and back in pre-Universal Internet age then that was a much more serious barrier and now, I'm afraid the moment it gone.
New! Cyberblues City - like cyberpunk, only more mellow. Free, fully illustrated roleplaying game based on the Fudge system
Bounty Hunters of the Atomic Wastelands, a post-apocalyptic western game based on Fate. It\'s simple, it\'s free and it\'s in colour!

Is "Waster Wold" the stoner version? :)

I am a big WW fan and I've run one home campaign and lots of con one-shots.

Its a great point buy system, fast and full of flavor. Combat has great Warhammer overtones which is not surprising considering Bill King of 40k wrote WW. The various factions are very colorful. The techno samurai are a tad cheesy, but the world is big enough that a GM can easily just ignore any factions that don't fit their vision.

I enjoy GW, Rifts and WW so its hard for me to rank one over the other, but if I had a group open to any of the three, I'd run WW just because I want more experience with their setting.

I'm kinda surprised nobody relaunched the game.

There is still a bunch of stuff available on this fan site.

I've heard about it a number of times online. Never actually seen a copy, though.

I had it on an automated eBay search for a few years trying to discover any rares. The core book shows up about every 2 months and supplements are there pretty regularly. There are copies on Amazon and Noble Knight. You can easily get it for cover price.

Here's a couple of reviews

Darn the R key.

Yeah, I picked it up when I heard good things about it, not when it was new.

I enjoyed it and realized how close the game mechanics were similar to Talislanta.

Albeit totally different people behind it.

I love the game, but haven't had the chance to run it in a long while. I may suggest it next time for a P-A game.

If anyone has questions--ask, I'll get out my books and try and answer them. That's the point of the "Let's Talk" thread I started. To spread the love, and factual information, about the game.

Waste World is fantastic, a very Rifty setting but with a game system that actually works, with nice art work. Probably cruelled by the fact it came out of Prague, I believe. Difficult to build up an Western fan base out of Prague.

Actually reminded me much more of Aeon Flux. Aeon Flux, Mad Max, Tank Girl... all that nineties tasty post-apoc grunge goodness. I wonder if it would be possible to collect enough online fans to play a game?

Sadly the Waste World mailing list got eaten by spam for me. I've a great interest in it, but don't do PBP, only text chat or voice chat games. PBP just slows things down to much to remain my interest.

I'm considering running one as an option via chat but I don't know when I'll have time.

I have run WW at a couple conventions, including GenCon and I never had a problem getting players - lots of people have heard of the game but never played it and "Rifts with a better system" is very enticing for lots of gamers.
