This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

And why is it that they have to be mutually exclusive? :D

They could be separate splatbooks.  Always have to think of merchandising, y'know.

Quote from: VectorSigma;514538Another vote for QuackPunk 1811.  I'm particularly enamored of the timeline - it's more Napoleonic than Victorian, which is super-keen.

Naturally.

I want to play duck pirates on the Barbary Coast.
We would be hounded by canine freebooters with letters of barque.
It's all coming together in my head.

You have to do it, man. :)

That's the really crazy thing about Siembieda.  He always squeaks through in the end. You have to give the guy credit for his ability to keep going.

Well, the funds are guaranteed in the sense that they'll give them back if the funding target isn't met.  ...

So he says. Kickstarter is a system designed around this. I've been part of a Kickstarter that didn't fund. I wasn't charged. He's collecting money and then promising a refund if the goals aren't met.

I applaud his tenacity. PG is still in business and still publishes games. Frankly, that is admirable. I also see where this particular project is really targeted at fans, so the pre-order style is less risky for regular fans.

However, if this was say a reprint of a game that could garner interest in the community as a whole, he would better be served by Kickstarter. It involves less risk on the part of potential new customers. If I don't really know PG or KS, I may be more inclined to pledge for a new product.

You misunderstood my quote.  I was referring to Kickstarter.

My comment was more to indicate that I feel that particular guarantee is somewhat less important than the larger one of whether the product is actually delivered.

Halloween Jack

Hm. Full-bodied shameless desperation, with top notes of fuzzyheaded disconnection and selfish ego. Definitely a vintage Siembieda.

"I need money, so I heard about this thing the kids are doing these days. Here, let me explain it to you. I'll be controlling the whole process through our website instead of using the intermediaries that make the process viable. Pay attention to the part where it's your fault if I don't actually send you your product."

DominikSchwager

Yeah not using Kickstarter or something similar just screams "say goodbye to your money", especially with KS poor trackrecord when it comes to controlling his own business, meeting deadlines or even editing the stuff properly.

Absolutely. I hope this doesn't happen because, to the best of my understanding, one of the biggest reason Palladium has survived all the vagaries of the market is due to a (relatively, in market terms) small, but very faithful cadre of fans.

If KS alienates the fans' goodwill and faith, this might be it. And crazy as he is, I wouldn't want to see Palladium go.

Heh. I feel oddly rewarded by that reaction.
