This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

They're not the only ones. Hero Games is now using Kickstarter in order to be able to continue producing product.

It's simply a realistic option in the face of current market conditions.

Like any other setup, it's genius if it works.

$12K, on the other hand, seems freaking huge.

I won't bother speculating on whether Rifts: Lemuria is actually, y'know, written or illustrated yet.

Many smaller companies are going this route. Some with very unrealistic expectations, though. Steve Long is trying to raise $33,000 for Mythic Hero, a supplement...  http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/88585-MYTHIC-HERO-Kickstarter

As far as I can tell they got their $12k. Looks like it works *shrug*

The few palladium books I own are crap, but I applaud the guy and his company for keeping the thing going all these years, albeit through strange means a lot of the time. Someone must like that stuff to keep them in business.

B.T.

It wouldn't be shameful if Siembieda weren't at the helm.
Quote from: Black Vulmea;530561Y\'know, I\'ve learned something from this thread. Both B.T. and Koltar are idiots, but whereas B.T. possesses a malign intelligence, Koltar is just a drooling fuckwit.

So, that\'s something, I guess.

It's a great idea. If you have that kind of devoted fanbase, why not use that leverage to help your business? And taking a look at the "Insider" bonuses that they get for their donations, they're not just getting a pat on the back.

The only thing weird is putting an "In Memoriam" credit in an RPG book. Huh?

Yep, like Palladium Books or not, they are a successful Game Company. "Successful" in the fact that they are still in business and operating. How many other Game Companies have operated as long as they have?

Well, lets be honest, they are only still in business because of Kevin's begging fests.

If they operated like a regular company and stayed in business because they were successful and not because the owner has to beg his customers for money, they would have been out of business a long time go

Blackhand

$12 grand isn't a lot for a huge print run, because that's what he's talking about.  Or he's gonna pocket a lot for it.

The thing about it is - he should be able to pay for it out of pocket.  If he can't, that's one thing.  It's Palladium however, I'm sure they've done that this year.

If he won't it's another.

For a moment I thought "with that many devoted fans, why doesn't KS try the Paizo subscription model?".

And then it occurred to me they'd have to stay on schedule and he couldn't rewrite everything and hit deadlines.
