This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Outsourced painted miniatures.

I got this from Ogres Cave. PaintedFigs.com will paint your miniatures for you. They'll buy them first as well, some at wholesale prices... I found a review and the results were mixed but it was an old review.

I didn't know that these kinds of services existed.

Some how it feels... wrong.

Anybody use them recently? Is it a scam? Would you even consider it? Or are the abundance of prepainted miniatures enough for all your needs? Who still paints their own miniatures for RPGs?

I've never used them, but I am aware of services like these.  There's a guy in town who charges people to paint their minis.

If someone has the money, it's not wrong.  The only moral quandary I see here is what if the buyer puts his mini in a contest and wins?

If I had a particular paint job that I had in mind for a long running character, then I might do it.  I suck at painting but generally make due with unpainted or prepainted plastic.  But I'd probably just ask somebody I in the group to do it.

This site isn't ment for that sort of thing Nicephorus. It is for games with people fielding dozens of items at a table at a time.

That said there are more than a few people in town locally here that are more geared towards singles, although they definately do armies as well. The FLGS has some of them displayed in their minis cabinet (sample fig or two with a business card). Some really nice work, better than I and likely anyone I know could just rip off. Although one person I play with could do something comparible with some practice.

But it is mostly something for people with more money than time and who don't see the actual painting as enjoyment in and of itself. There are lots of people that pull $100/hr at work. Even at $50/hr job if they like WH or something but not like painting why the hell would they want to paint up 2000 points of figures?
