This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Reward good behavior.

I got to tell you my horror stories trying to UNsubscribe from DDI some time.

D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

If you mean a gazillion emails, having to phone the guys and jumping through hoops to basically repeat over and over "YES, stop my subscription RIGHT NOW," yes. Microsoft comes to mind, too.

Giving to a political campaign is the same thing.  Sure, he who has the gold makes the rules, but if you've ever given once, they are NEVER satisfied with enough.

I'm really looking forward to getting these. Its funny, maybe even moreso than copies of 5e with my name in them.

I, too, place a higher value on the 1e reprints than 5e books with your name in them.  ;)
The problem is not that power corrupts, but that the corruptible are irresistibly drawn to the pursuit of power. Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito.

Probably the best they can do without the original art (which is long gone), but that's going to look pretty godawful once it gets printed.

Would be much cooler if they did!

I would like you to explain what these files are.  Is it a retroclone?  Or is this a "pirated" version of AD&D?  I wasn't able to open either from here at this time, and you should include more explanation when you post one of these links.  I'll mention that "piracy" is strictly forbidden by site policy; and posting links, especially to files like this, without adequate explanation of the contents is extremely frowned upon.

I checked them out cursorily, and from what I can tell, while the text is not a strict 1:1 copy of the original, the illustrations definitely are infringing on WotC's copyright. There is also no mention of the OGL that I could find, so technically, this is not a retroclone or a legal use of some elements present in the d20 SRD document. This could be construed as infringing on WotC's IP.

I edited the post accordingly, and removed the links to said documents.

Right. Teazia, please don't post that sort of thing again.

Sorry, my bad.  Most other sites seem open to the files.  They are rather cool, recreations of sorts of the Gygax books.  The game is actually a really clean version of C&C with other bits, but the art and text can be offputting to some.

Worth checking out IMO.  Chris Perkins, not the WOTC one, has been working on them for at least 5 years. They are infact the house rule books for his home game.

He has basically already done what the new reprints are doing in a way.
Miniature Mashup with the Fungeon Master  (Not me, but great nonetheless)

I found the 1e books really dry reading, back in the day, so less excited about these than most others. Besides that, I still have my original Players handbook somewhere in the loft, albeit its battered to hell and with notes and scribbles in it.

No word on a BECMI Rules Cyclopedia release? I think that'd get more mouth foam flowing than even the 1e re-release. If they did a tidy up job on that... *mouth foaming*

If nothing else it'd stop the high - crazy prices these things go for on ebay.

Still, this (1e re-release) is an olive branch to the old school crowd. A good thing WOTC have done. Not sure what their paymasters at Hasbro might think though... They might not care so long as it adds a nought to the balance sheet final figure for the year.
