This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What qualifies as modern in gaming?

Quote from: The Butcher;540338I hope I'm wrong too, kitty. But from the admittedly skewed perspective of blogs and forums, it looks like the fucking Tower of Babel.

Blogs and forums are part of the internet culture, which at this point is practically synonymous with "echo chamber".  The fast-food consumption nature of the internet means people can simply tune out anything they don't want to hear, and most places ban or block anyone else from disturbing the harmony.  This place is different, but it's also rare.

TTRPing requires human beings talking to each other, where you don't get to just /ignore someone who fundamentally disagrees with you.  Meetups and gaming clubs all over the place have people dealing with different versions of D&D or *gasp* other games and yet it usually doesn't lead to bloodshed(unless you game with ggroy :D).

Can it be hard to find games? Sure, but interactive communication keeps getting better and better, we're not too far out from a commercially viable VTT and that will be the game changer.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans
