Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Options for selling games I no longer want.

I'm doing a clean out and downsizing my RPG collection.

Is there a forum for selling games on theRPGsite?

Also, if anyone has suggestions on the best way to sell the items (individually or as a group) or any success stories regarding sites they've used, that would be really appreciated.

Many thanks.

What I've always wanted is someone to start a site for gaming that resembles BrickLink, the LEGO market place. With sales history so you have an idea what each gaming item sells for...

That said, many gaming forums have classified sections.

In the past I have:

Sold gaming items to fellow gamers at clubs or games hosted at home
Posted items for sale on NNTP news groups
Posted items for sale on gaming forums
Sold items to gaming stores
Sold items to used book stores
Posted to a local gaming e-mail list
I think I've even dumped a few items at Goodwill

After getting married, I put a lot of things on fire sale, selling whole collections for $50-100 depending on size - I had a huge collection and needed to make space in my home and life for a wife... And coming out if it with $500+ in the span of a few weeks didn't hurt. Sure, I could have got several times that selling individually, but it would have taken time I didn't have (even if it could have been reasonably well paid time).

Due to the ease of using BrickLink, I've gotten a lot more money for all the LEGO I've sold off. All though even there, I sold unopened sets as sets rather than as parts (most sets net more as parts than whole sets).

I second the suggestions by ffliz.

I also recommend going to your local gaming store. I will caution though expect to be both realistic and perhaps unhappy at what they will give you for the books. If one is say going to sell D&D one may get a decent amount for their books. If say one is going to sell Rifts then expect a loss. The more obsucre or unpopular the rpg the less a lgs will give a person when selling. As well avoid the "but I spent x amount of money on these books I expect/or want more". to be blunt your not going to get it and the person in charge of buying used material can easily tell you to go elsewhere. In some cases expect to see a book they paid 5$ then be sold for 15-20$.

I keep (most of) my books in nearly perfect condition, and I only expect about 20% of cover price for them. This allows the store to turn them around for 50% of cover price on their used shelf.

Yea, this is a good point, unless you find the right place to list items to end users yourself, you will get a fraction of what a retailer will price your book at. Some retailers will give you a larger credit for use in their store than they give in cash, which if you do a lot of shopping is helpful. I've purchased a lot of kids books and books for my wife from selling games to Powells Books in Portland OR.

Selling individually, I have sold some items for above cover price, and more for close to cover price, but that was due to selling older items that had a larger demand compared to the supply (all you need to get a good price is have an unavailable item, even if yours is the only one available out of a print run of 100 that has 2 or 3 folks interested in it...).

So really, what you get depends on how quickly you need the space and money, and how much work you want to do.

Thanks very much for all the comments.

I'm always a bit sad when I see how much some books are going for second-hand, but that's the way it goes I guess.

Thanks again for all the suggestions, I'll get cracking and see how I go.

Has anyone here had any experience selling things on boardgamegeek.com? (It has that feature for listing you have or want a game.)

Piestrio

See if a regional con near you has an auction. Those are always a lot of fun.

I bought a game there (Rpggeek.com) a few years ago and it was all good. Also traded with a user who turned out to live just across the street.
I´ve put up tons of games for sale or trade, and never ever got any response.

There is a very active FaceBook group with a few thousand members that is just focused on folks selling their used RPG books. Prior to me deleting my FB account I sold quite a few products on there and it was a lot easier than eBay and no transaction fees. I've sold books to used bookstores only to find out that I was a sucker because I could have received a lot more from that FB group. The benefit to used bookstores is they tend to make an offer on everything you bring in so you'll get rid of it all at one time. Can make more money selling it piece meal.

There is a G+ community called the Goblin Emporium for selling/trading games.  I've had good luck with a few transactions there.

Powells Books usually only takes about 1/2 the stuff I bring in... This has sometimes left me wondering if I should actually sell all but supplement #5 for some game or setting...

The disadvantage of selling yourself online is dealing with packaging for shipping and going to the Post Office or UPS to mail the package, plus trying to figure and negotiate shipping costs. It's also hard to find the best solution for putting a big catalog of stuff up for sale where you don't expect to sell it all immediately (one thing I love about BrickLink for LEGO - you set up a virtual store and someone can easily find and buy stuff you've had listed for years).

There's no sales forum on theRPGsite, but if you had something rare or interesting to sell I'd be ok with you posting about it here, to give our members the first shot.

Depends on what you have.

Really rare stuff? Acaeum members will be interested.
Huge collection you don't want to spend time parting out? A specialist like Noble Knight Games or Wayne's Books will make you an offer.
Lots of material for one or two games? Find a forum dedicated to that game, as you'll be advertising most directly.
General bits and pieces? Facebook groups (there are a couple), Ebay, rpg.net.
