This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Fuk yea! I want to be able to play Optimus Prime and teabag the other players when I blast them with my Ion Kannon!

Well, it has Dragons... Therefore I can't see any reason not to have him as a PC.

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

Well,  WOTC turning D&D into a total joke is complete.  Luckily there are better fantasy rpgs out there to play these days.

What WotC is doing is planning on a VTT that will take other game systems and IP to attempt to compete with other VTT's.  WotC has been trying to use its IP for other RPG's and its not going to take because there are better games already made.

What does Optimus Prime have to do with fantasy again? I don't think even Beast Wars was close enough to any D&D fantasy to count.

In their defense, it was to show how the VTT could be used for other products.

But it also doesn't give me any confidence that the VTT isn't going to devolve into Fortnight Character Salad.

Iron golem. Theres been some pretty creative depictions of iron and stone golems making nods to movies and robots over the years.

Take a look at Spelljammer. Its full of homages to movie monsters.
Cylons, Aliens, Screamers, the beachball thing from Darkstar, The Phantom Zome from the Christopher Reeve Superman movie, and more.

TSR loved to do stuff like this.

I do know about Spelljammer, but I don't immediately think of Spelljammer when I think of D&D products, I think of Forgotten Realms or something akin to that. It would make more sense if that Optimus Prime teaser had a Spelljammer association, like this was a Spelljammer sell up or something.
