This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I like Larry Elmore; I wish we had more non-D&D pieces by him.  His D&D stuff looks like he got everything right, like that's what a dragon is supposed to look like by the book, but there's not always any new inspiration in that for me the way there is in some of these random forgotten novel covers.

I also fault Elmore, perhaps unfairly, for the "characters standing looking at the reader" illustration style we're still stuck with today.  At least his have the saving grace of being full pieces, with some humor as in that dragon coming up behind them, and not just the lone figure or the naked police line up of later editions.

Anyway, tax:

Janet Aulisio is a polarizing artist, for reasons I don't quite understand. I saw one person online refer to them as "the Leifeld of RPG art," which I think is complete BS even if one doesn't like their particular style.

I'll start with some colour work, but these don't do it for me in the way of Aulisio's pen & ink pieces...
