Title: Old school black and white fantasy art
Post by: AndrewSFTSN on March 12, 2014, 03:50:30 PM
Hi all

I've got a new portfolio of my work up at http://www.andrewwalter.co.uk/ that might appeal to those of you that like the old, non-computerised ways of fantasy illustration.

Mods, please delete/move this if inappropriate.

I love B/W artwork - for me, it can be more evocative of some settings than color art. You have a cool and weird vibe to your art. Very cool. Looking forward to seeing more.

I particularly like the Adventure's in a Jar and the Blob Slavers and their Scorpion.

Thanks very much.  I agree about black and white seeming more evocative - not sure why that is really, I often feel like it seems more like a documentary recording of an event, if that makes sense.

This guy didn't make the cut, portfolio-wise, but I may as well put him here:

I really adore that disembodied tongue-monster thing.  Also the bottled adventurers.  Beautiful stark work; reminds me of Beardsley and Erol Otus.

Good stuff. The older I get, the more I prefer B/W interior design, especially in the art, to that of color. Not to mention it keeps the printed costs much lower.

I've always liked b/w for interior art over color.  I feel it's more evocative

Neat! Very distinctive, if I ever published a game that would be the kind of art I would want in it.

Very nice art. As such, I'll allow it.  Let the accusations of terrible bias and arbitrary moderation commence.

Thanks Pundy!

Here's some drawings I used for a Mutant Future session I found when scanning my archives:

Hey, this is some pretty cool stuff. Interesting to see fantasy art coming from sort of an alt-comics direction. Also maybe a little bit of Adventure Time in there? Just a little? :D

Only seen one episode of Adventure Time - fairly recently -but I liked it just fine.  Alt comics- if you mean Crumb, Kaz, and Tony Millionaire- most definitely!
