This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Old Geezer Q&A

In light of all the crazy admin stuff happening over at TBP, I hadn't been there in a long while.  Drinking my coffee this morning I wandered over into the D20 section and found this gem, IMO. :)

Love him or hate him, Old Geezer is back and opened up a Q&A thread of sorts that I found interesting.  Some of the issues that have spawned mega-threads here are touched upon in the thread.  Anyone who is interested in the early days of the hobby and how OD&D was approached by the first generation of gamers should give it a glance.

Old Geezer Q&A Thread.

He's got an account here. Somebody invite him to answer our questions and thereby pimp his upcoming book with us too.

I'd love it if OG posted regularly here.  Or anywhere else than BTP.  Primarily because when people start asking him colossally stupid things and he points out the colossal stupidity of it, he won't get fucking banned for a month or two.

Quote from: Old GeezerBut in this old fart's opinion, things took a turn for the worse when the zeitgeist of the game went from "Anything not forbidden is permitted" to "Anything not permitted is forbidden."

He's Kickstarting a book, anyone want to start a pool on how much he'll rake in?  The winner gets to use the Batslap with impugnity.

For me, it's this:

Quote from: Old Geezer"Evil" campaigns. Because the people who wanted that thought "evil" meant explicit torture and explicit rape. And it wasn't one or two people; EVERY time Gary got a request or submission involving "evil" PCs that's what you got. As Tim Kask said, "these people are fucking sick."

...because it puts paid to the two pieces of fucking garbage being published today, which I won't even stoop to mention the names of.

There is an awful lot of garbage out there. Only two really?
Quote from: JonWakeGamers, as a whole, are much like primitive cavemen when confronted with a new game. Rather than \'oh, neat, what\'s this do?\', the reaction is to decide if it\'s a sex hole, then hit it with a rock.

Quote from: Old Geezer;724252At some point it seems like D&D is going to disappear up its own ass.

I'm thinking of two specific ones.

Well, I don't know him either, but I extended an invitation for him to come here and start up a thread. :)

Sure. Just tell him that if he feels like talking some more about the good ol' times he can do it here as well.

If you are going to invite Old Geezer over here to talk about the early days of D&D, do it because of the quote below.

Quote from: Old GeezerI do have nostalgia for other things, though. I miss the days before sitting around a table drinking beer and talking about pretending to be an elf became SERIOUS BUSINESS!!!
"Meh."

Marleycat

The site crashed for me. Maybe I'll try later.  But Drohem sent him a PM already so if he wants to show up he will.
