This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Oh My God! I found the Forge website...

Quote from: joewolzOne thing you have to give the Forge credit for, and that's the stress on Actual Play.

Well, in fairness, the Forge didn't start focusing on actual play a great deal until shortly before the Theory forum was shut down. After that, they were all in, of course. Prior to that, there were more actual play threads on sites like ENWorld and TBP (in fact, I think there still are). If the Forge officialy tries to take credit for introducing the online community to actual play threads, they're officially full of it.They were one of the last RPG sites to get on that particular train.

That joke doesn't work - I'm so old that the first "rap" I danced to was "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang. I remember RUN-DMC when they were new and being played at my High school dances.

Eh, it made me laugh.

But then, I like Snoop Dog.

Quote from: KingSpoomExcept none of the Actual Play threads I've read contain actual play... they were summaries posted by the GM or a player.  It's disappointing, like going to a friend's house to watch actual football, but you're really watching the football stats channel.

Then again, the only realiable way to transcript games is playing them over aim or irc, and that seems less popular than playing in person.

This is absolutely correct.  The only documentation of Actual Play I've seen online so far is at http://www.rpgmp3.com/

The one thing I don't get is why someone would even bother to be "toadying" if they know there's absolutely nothing to gain from it. They don't have to worry about currying favor with mods to avoid being banned, and they know that currying favour won't get them any special privileges.

You have to be a Freemason to get special privileges around here.. :D

Also, to sum up: If you just "discovered" the forge, Koltar, congrats. Glad to see you found it ridiculous.

If you are trying to "curry favour", and I'm not saying you are: guy, figure out you're doing that out of habit from heavily-modded sites, or just because you want to be liked. You don't need to do that here. Just relax, be yourself.

And as for "actual play"; I don't see the usefulness of the kind of "actual play" they talk about on there, it certainly bears no resemblance to any "actual play" I know about or would find useful.

He's just trying to build "cred", to deflect away from the fact that the only reason he even registered and started posting here is to bait Nox.

I'm just pleasantly surprised to see that at least some others (besides Nox of course) are as disgusted by the behavior as I am.

I've got the guy on an ignore list.

I didn't even know who he was  until I saw this forum site - I just knew him as a creator of sock puppets on other forums.

I really don't think that's the only reason Koltar is here. And he was good enough to put Nox on ignore when I asked him to do so for the sake of harmony.

Quote from: KoltarThe role playing games they talk about ? - I hadn't heard of most of them.

A few of them are actually worthwhile and some are even amazing. Of course, most are pure crap but I'd still advise you to try a few offerings just in case you are pleasantly surprised.

Some of the games have playable demos and others are even available completely free. Can't really go wrong.

The rest of your observations are totally unoriginal and make you sound like you were living under a rock.

..or just not surfing the internet as much as some think I am...

I read the descriptions of some of the games on a wiki earlier today.  There seems to be a big deal made about the "narrativist" angle.

Yeah. It's prevalent with Forge games. But doesn't make up 100% of the games offered there.

Couple that with the fact there are multiple takes on what exactly is the narrativist angle and you get a variety of games. By no means do I want to tell you to buy everything at the Forge. Most of them are crap. But I'd try a few. Narrativist or not.

For a fairly traditional one that comes to mind and is available for free, there's The Shadow Of Yesterday.

Oh, and I have to say something. Although I did not express it, my original post had more to do with the lack of anything constructive in your post. Just saying "I went there, and it sucked" does not make a really productive thread starter, IMO.

I guess I was irritated by the lack of substance or clear intent. It isn't clear what you were trying to accomplish or what kind of answers you were looking for.

Anyways, that's over and done now :p

Come up with some new material - or I might think you are a "sock puppet" for somebody else.  How the hell could I be a  "toady" on the Big Purple & Pink - if I don't even like that forum site?  You must have me confused with somebody else.

http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=281253

This is the thread that I first noticed you in and the one that made my hackles rise.  Rightly or wrongly, I then associated you with the kind of "Thankyou oh great and wondrous Mods" posters who seemed to appear out of nowhere.
I had enough of a problem with the growing Pleasantville nature of TBP and you were picked by my subconcious as the icing on the cake.

(Though I find it interesting that someone who claims to have little knowledge of the Forge states in their sig that they are a member of 4 or 5 gaming boards.  Curious.)

As to me being a sockpuppet of Nox - well it would validate my theory on his mental state and be one in the eye for Jimbob (Yeah, see.  I told you I was mad.  Yours, Nox/Stumpy).  Seriously dude, read my posts.  Me and the lord of the night are not one another.

Holy crap.

Yeah - and I also said I took a break from that place for most of the fall. too.

Some of the forums I am on have nothing to do with gaming or never mention "the Forge".
