This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I was cleaning up around here recently and found an old COMICS & GAMES RETAILER lodged between my D&D and GURPS books - but slightly behind them.

...From the January 2006 issue; #166:

OCTOBER 2005

Average UNIT SALES for retailers' TOP-SELLING GAMES
...We have averaged their reported figures across all stores in the sample for each individual product area to show the raw average number of copies sold of each product reported by each store. Major changes are marked by arrows. To arrive at our final weighted unit sales figures for role-playing games and trading-card games, sales on products that did not make individual retailers' top-seller lists did make enough other retailers' lists are extrapolated and are integrated into the non-sellers' charts at sales levels below their last-place titles. The turnout figure for each product tells what percentage of retailers who sell products in a specific category said that a specific product was a "top seller" for them.

MANUFACTURERS' PIECE SHARE
The average store reporting unit shares to us sold at least 26 copies (29, weighted) of its Top 12 role-playing games, for a gross revenue of around $650. (Last month, the Top 12 role-playing games accounted for 37 copies.) For just those top games (not the whole market), these manufacturers accounted for the most weighted unit sales:

1Wizards of the Coast...55.18%
2White Wolf.......14.10%
3Green Ronin......5.81%
4FanPro......5.69%
5Palladium......4.69%
6Goodman Games...3.56%
7Privateer Press......2.12%
8Black Industries......2.02%
9Steve Jackson......1.42%
   Other......5.41%

CHART CHAT> * October sales fell severely against the prior month's sales, with the brief increase in prior months apparently a spike following Gen Con. The market seems to be in a vicious circle, wherin consumers who can't get products in stores go to the web to buy products, and do not return. Look for a major shakeout in the industry in First Quarter 2006.

Thanks Koltar, I'll integrate these stats into the big chart and they'll be in the next version, once C&GR send you the real chart for July 2007.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

Wow, Shadowrun sold better than WoD back then. SR4 must have got a lot of interest directly after publishing.

When I write "TDE", I mean "The Dark Eye". Wanna know more? Way more?

Actually no. Not in raw number. And the weighted values are the same. Also turnout is higer for WoD. So the difference might be so slight it is in a level of statistical error.
