This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

My Norwescon game post is live!

D&D 5th Edition
RPG
Players: 4 to 6
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 2pm-8pm

The Duke of Westmarch has grown tired of the constant hijackings, banditry, raids and other mayhem that boils out of the "far west" now commonly called The Wildlands. The Wildlands sit due west of his march across the Cattail River. The King granted Duke Lindelholm this march to tame it, and thus far it has proven a formidable task. The Duke sent several scouting parties into the Wildlands to discover what evils may be plotting there. Only one returned. With them dark tidings of a ruined village and something... growing in power there. Something that could threaten not only the Westmarch, but the very Kingdom itself!

Missing Text: (I guess I was edited down for brevity...)

The Duke has called on brave adventurers to go forth and root out evil in the Wildlands. You are one such brave soul. Your party started nearly 20 strong, but now only 6 of you remain. The constant strikes of foul undead and stranger creatures have harried your trek, and you fear the return home unless you can strike a decisive blow to whomever, or whatever is at the heart of this darkness.

As you crest a hill covered sparsely in trees and bushes, you see the ruins of a town laid out below you. You hear the unhallowed moans and frightful cries of creatures behind you, closing in on your group. The ruins beckon to you. Will you find the answers you seek in these ruins? Will you find safety or perhaps only a horrifying ending? You draw your weapons and head into the unknown...

Taming the Wildlands is a semi-open sandbox style adventure for 4 - 6 5th-level PCs. Pre-generated characters will be provided. The adventure opens right in the action as your group of brave heroes head into the ruins of a town long lost to the decay of time. You will have the opportunity to play in the newest version of the most popular roleplaying game and try out higher level characters to get a feel for the fantastic options 5th edition offers!

Notes:

I will be using 0One games The Ruined Town maps, and preparing a bunch of various encounters throughout. The characters will be harried by undead assaults as they uncover clues about the threat brewing in the Wildlands. My goal is to showcase the game in a fun exploration of the ruins.

Looks good. Since you're at a con, perhaps you'll get to see how different groups tackle the same problems. Although I never ran a game at a con, I enjoy saving my stuff and running it for others later.

Best of luck with it.

I submit for your perusal, enjoyment and personal use the fine characters of 5th level, usable for your own convention, demo or home games.

Design approach: These characters are the last six surviving members of the expedition into the Wildlands. They have some nice magic trinkets and good ability scores. I wanted them to be super fun to play and figured if they survived this long, they must have an edge. Basically there was a "character funnel" off screen before the adventure proper begins. :-)

These characters are powerful. The Tiefling Mage with a Robe of the Archmagi is incredibly formidable. For a convention game, I have no problem with it personally, but if you like things more gritty, these are not the characters you're looking for.

I will be using the wonderful maps from 0One games in "The Ruined City" line. I will share my random encounters, planned encounters, etc. when I have them polished up sometime before WED eve.

OH! The character sheet and spell sheet generator are located here. They are SUPERB!!!! I mean it. Amazingly well done, form fill, auto-calculating, and gorgeous.

Oh my gawd, they are faboo! This need s to be booted up to the top so others can see. That spell generator sheet alone is a priceless reference.
Just make your fuckin\' guy and roll the dice, you pricks. Focus on what\'s interesting, not what gives you the biggest randomly generated virtual penis.  -- J Arcane

You know, people keep comparing non-TSR D&D to deck-building in Magic: the Gathering. But maybe it\'s more like Katamari Damacy. You keep sticking shit on your characters until they are big enough to be a star.

Love your character sheets and the characters on them.  Not the Bard spells I'd have chosen, but that's cool the spells chosen all are interesting.  I'd happily play this game.

Thanks! Those are not my character sheets. They we're made by someone on ENWorld.

What bard spells would you have chosen? I'm curious. I don't run the game until Thursday and I'm still prepping...

Hmmm let's see.

Cantrips: Viscious Mockery is unique to the bard, and flavorful, and highly useful
1st Level: Dissonant Whispers is unique to the bard, and quite useful
1st Level: Faerie Fire - Almost unique to the bard (druid also gets it), and highly useful.
2nd Level: Silence is hard to use as a bard (stops all your spells).  I like Crown of Madness here.
3rd Level: I like Hypnotic Pattern here.

I concur, those are excellent choices!!  I have yet to memorize the spell list, but I"m getting there. :-) Thanks!!  I updated the character. Uploading all the recent fixes/changes.
