Aaron Allston 2013!
In other news the latest poll What best describes your DMing style? is finished. "Entertaining/Fun" got 7% of the vote.
I can understand why, but no OD&D reprints option... FALSE!
I want a box with the original 3 booklets and the three supplements.
Anybody voting for the AD&D Greyhawk Adventures hardcover has definitely never actually read the AD&D Greyhawk Adventures hardcover!
Of the options listed, I'd vote for the RC, but I'd rather see OD&D + Supps I-III.
No OD&D and Supplements option. FAIL.
Sorry, GDQ.
I'd personally prefer Moldvay B/E, with B2 and X1 thrown in.
None of the above: Moldvay B/X. I'm disappointed it wasn't on the poll.
Quote from: flyerfan1991;619175I'd personally prefer Moldvay B/E, with B2 and X1 thrown in.
I'd like to see them as one hardcover book put together.
Quote from: Piestrio;619173Sorry, GDQ.
This. But I'd rather see a reprint of the original, separate modules than the "super-module" version (that added a cheesy framing story and a bunch of bad art).
No Oriental adventures? Wahhh!
I voted for B/E, because it's the one version of D&D I never played and everyone talks about how good it is.
Quote from: Benoist;619171No OD&D and Supplements option. FAIL.
If this was listed as an option, I'd have voted for it.
Maybe they're keeping us waiting in anticipation. They do Unearthed Arcana, then the 2nd Edition Reprints, then some adventures. All building up to the granddaddy of them all!

Aaron Allston 2013!
Got my vote, and I
have a copy of the Cyclopedia sitting on my shelf. What do I really want a reprint of?
Wrath of the Immortals to go with it.
Quote from: flyerfan1991;619175I'd personally prefer Moldvay B/E, with B2 and X1 thrown in.
yep, wish that was an option. would be neat to see those 4 reprinted in one volume.
although the more i think about b2, it's the rose-lenses glasses thing. had tons of fun with it when i was around 12, but it doesn't hold up (http://lotfp.blogspot.com/2011/08/against-giants-review-keep-on.html?zx=b345c6c88bcabb2b).
Quote from: languagegeek;619176None of the above: Moldvay B/X. I'm disappointed it wasn't on the poll.
I feel the same. But, I voted for Rules Cyclopedia as the next best option.
Quote from: Benoist;619171No OD&D and Supplements option. FAIL.
I love my own copies, but they seem like terrible candidates for premium reprints -- the production values are just so far from current standards. Even with nice leather covers, I don't think they would be worth much to anyone but a fanatical collector. They are products of a different age.
A Holmes reprint, though, I could get behind, and I'd be even more jazzed for Moldvay/Cook.
As important historical documents with limited market value, I *do* think the OD&D catalog should be given away as free, or at least inexpensive, PDFs. Seriously.
Quote from: beeber;619190yep, wish that was an option. would be neat to see those 4 reprinted in one volume.

Well, I think that knowing what I know now, I'd prevent it from turning into a straight dungeon crawl and focus more on promoting the blank slate for the entire region. I used to skip over everything else and send groups straight to the Caves of Chaos (the "Dungeon" part of D&D, right?), but having skimmed the module since then, I think it's a great sandbox that I really never used to its fullest extent.
Quote from: T. Foster;619180This. But I'd rather see a reprint of the original, separate modules than the "super-module" version (that added a cheesy framing story and a bunch of bad art).
Yeah. Let's see how they do with the S1 through S4 reprint (which won't, as I understand, be a mere reprint of S1-4 Realms of Horror). I'd like to see a G1-G3 hardback followed by a D1-Q1 hardback.
YES YES WIZARDS TAKE MY MONEY OH GOD TAKE IT.
Ahem.
Sorry.
Anyway, I'd like that more than the other items listed, although a reprinted OD&D set would be nice too (I have a boxed set and a second set of loose booklets, but a "commemorative" set would be nice too).
As to Basic D&Ds, the Moldvay/Cook rules boxes being reprinted would be nice. Fie on the Mentzer set...RC doesn't float my boat - sorry RC dudes.

Ok, so he has a reason to leak, and even a better reason to make it look unintentional. :p
To tell you the truth, I just figured that's what happened when WotC was available again as a company you could get to, they activated the account in the database, but there was nothing to post up yet.
I looked at my "Updated products" list on RPGNow, and right at the top, dated 2013-01-15, is T1-4.

Yeah, reprinting the
World of Greyhawk boxed set would make a lot of sense, and whoever set up this poll probably just didn't realize the difference between the two and thought that's what was being included. But, even so, it was funny to see what's generally regarded as a very bottom-of-the-barrel product from the tail-end of the 1E era on the shortlist to be reprinted

yeah, if i were to run it now, the only thing i'd change is some of the caves' populations, use a bit more dungeon-ecology-logic to it. see who won the "war" between the humanoid factions, so to speak. ha, "b2--the next generation" or the like.
Difficult choice. I would have voted for Temple of Elemental Evil, but I know many are aching for the RC (I have a copy from back when it was cheap :p), so I chose that.
Dudes, we have a "Would you like to see a reprint of the FUCKING RULES ENCYCLOPEDIA" poll out there - something I never expected to see in my earthly life. And what's the reaction? A lot of people peeing out of the cup because the cornflakes aren't red, blue and green.
You know what we will do? We all vote for a reprint of the Avatar Trilogy Modules - so no one will bleed from the nose because FUCKING ORIGINAL D&D isn't reprinted to their exact specs.

an RC reprint really is just :idunno: to me. moldvay b/x is "my" edition, and all i need. i eventually picked up the RC on ebay some years ago, and find it lackluster. ergo my vote.

I am in your camp, but I'm obviously biased.
In fact, as a vile, scheming initiate of the Cult of D&D RC, I am somewhat relieved that there's no real competition against the RC in that poll, save for GDQ and ToEE.
I mean, Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue? Really? That book made me angry merely by dint of existing, and made me hate FR almost as much as forty minutes of "who would win a fight, Drizzt or Elminster?" canon-wank from the insufferable, novel-reading AD&D 2e FR-heads back at high school. It took over 15 years for me to discover the FR 1e gray box and think that maybe FR is not as bad as I thought.
Also The Illithiad.
Such a classic.
I voted RC before I realized I could do none of the above and enter in my own... Which would have been B/X...
I own a copy of the Moldvey Basic box thanks to a friend, but I really would like a copy of the Expert set as well... A reprint of both together would be so awesome.

If that's true - and evidence seems to be stacking up for it - that's pretty damn exciting. I find it more exciting than the poll on further reprints. I just hope that the scan quality/DPI-level/appearance is better than some of the module pdfs that I purchased ~3 years ago.

Rules Cyclopedia if only to piss off the ebay sellers who think charging £99 for a ratty as heck copy of the original is a fair deal :)
Kinda perplexed by Illithiad on the list myself tbh as the Sea Devils and I Tyrant books were alot better, my guess is they felt they should bung a 2e book in there and that was the only one they could find at the time.
Of course RC. Though (and I realise it isn't strictly an original product) a Gold Box Basic that included Red Box rules as printed, along with Companion and Expert rules.

Ok, out of the limited choices I voted for RC too. Also, I voted that dwelfs are dumber than a CG half-orc paladin.
Voted GDQ, although I'd want it to be a compilation of the complete originals, rather than a reprint of Queen of Spiders.
If they'd chosen the World of Greyhawk instead of Greyhawk Adventures (which sucked), that would be in the running, too.
Quote from: Votan;619313I wish it was still available as a boxed set. It was the best entry to the game for a teenager and it would help recruiting new gamers.
Yes, a box set goes without saying. B/X is still, IMO, the best entry game. And it's also a fantastic we've-been-playing-for-ages-and-it-still-rules game.
I've been running B2 for the past 4 months (fortnightly) and its a great module. Granted there's a pile of stuff that got added in as we went along, but that's part of why it's great. No amount of improvising can break B2!
The other poll on the page makes me want to self-defense an orphanage in the face.
I voted for RC, but I also would LOVE a hardback, combined and sorted version of Moldvay. That game is fantastic. Especially if they could keep the art.
Beside the RC I would reprint a series of Gazs "Collected Atlases", three for book, harbound. Dawn of Emperors was cool too, and maybe deserving his own volume.

If I was the boss of the guy who came up with that poll I'd be calling him into my office for a stern talk. I mean, is that a relevant question that comes up on people's games? I guess the thing with 1E was that Gary wasn't exactly around to consult when the reprints were happening, so they couldn't go back to him and say "Hey, is this really a mistake or was there an intention behind this?" Under such circumstances I can see why people would be reluctant to tamper with his text, especially in a product which was ostensibly released as a tribute to him.

I agree with Piestrio here. Yeah, you could do some interesting stuff with the various factions, but once the PCs were focused on the temple, it felt a lot more like "room to room and slay, repeat" than T1, which allowed for a lot more creative freedom.
