This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: GameDaddy;245079I'll use a metaphor, so you can grok my ulterior motives for yourself. It's kind of like when someone is sneaking up behind you to backstab you, or if you witness two third parties, and see one shooting the other in the back. How do you respond?
I think you're taking the internet wayyyyyy too seriously when you compare one person expressing disdain for someone's work to another person committing murder.

Oh boy, this site has had a fucking consensus that Hite was a lamer these days.

Where has taste and reading ability gone? Anyhoo, I´d like a link to a quality article from, say 2007. Show me one, pretty please.

GD: Are you for realz? You must be a troll or somesuch. Fuck, if you want to run around this place correcting all the "wrong" opinions people might have, you´re in for a big shock/job. Especially if you challenge the nature of gaming debates themselves. Little brained GD-Dude: Different opinions are based on the same facts, that´s the first step in understanding human society. Oh, and democracy, moron.

Quote from: Koltar;245086Probably the same reason I would praise him, Sett - Hite has written some good stuff in the past. He has contributed to SJ Games & GURPS, so thats how I know his name.

In the last five years? The last good stuff I´ve seen was Suppressed Transmission. But that would never work again, cause now there´s wikipedia.

First Dancey now Hite. You're turning on all your heroes aren't you Sett. This site never did have a consensus. Stop trying to turn this place into a groupthink cesspool.

I believe the consensus may be more clearly visible once you remove the opinions of all the people who aren't really part of the site in Sett's worldview.

Thank God for you Sett! Otherwise, how would we know what to like?
You are posting in a troll thread.

So the first column is out and it's not particularly inspiring, more of an introduction I guess. I was hoping for a bit more crispy, crunchy meat right out of the gate.  We'll see.

For those of you seeking clarification on Hite's gaming values, he speaks to them in his latest livejournal:

QuoteThey [his biases] include, in no specific order, "Westerns should have more games about them," "Game designers matter, game companies rather less so," "Elegance is a virtue," and "Call of Cthulhu is the greatest RPG of all time." I have others, which I'm sure a Straussian close reading of my summa can bring out.

IPR =/= Forge

Although I am no big fan of IPR, it must be noted that not all their stuff is Forgie Swinecrap.   Lots of it is small press, just not the stuff that gets featured the most.

As for Ken Hite, he's hit & miss like most columnists.  However, Ken was the only guy talking hobby financials with any degree of accuracy for a long time so kudos to him for that.

Within the last FIVE years???

Hhmm,...Oh yeah, HECK  'a YEAH!

Just noticed this copy of GURPS: INFINITE WORLDS sitting near me on a desk. That book was piublished in February of 2005.

Kenneth Hite is the primary author of that one, some pretty damn good writing in there and ideas for RPG campaigns - so YEAh He HAS written some good stuff within the last 5 years.

on a sidenote: GameDaddy is NOT a "Troll" - he just works a lot and doesn't look at his computer that often. He shops at the strore I work at , and was my ride to GenCon last month. He has a pretty impressive memory of RPG history.
