This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Near future, solar system sci-fi setting.

And for less horror you can look at SJGames Transhuman Space. Both are detailed and interesting.  Also, the new Polaris is out and IIRC is near-future as well.

Near future...CP2020 had the Near Orbit and Deep Space supplements. Never had a chance to play in them, though.

Just toss in something old and obscure, High Colonies was all in system but with a dead/dying Earth. Everyone lives in artificial habitats belonging to various factions.

Would you like to know more? YES. What system? How does it play?

High Colonies

Stats - Str, Int, Dex, Con, Chr (no wis) 2d6+6 for humans.

Skills - Not a lot, roughly Traveller level I'd say. Percentage-based with 95% max.

Combat - Kind of interesting, you roll a number of d6 based on your weapon, rate of fire, etc.  the defender rolls a number of d6 based on movement (running and dodging give you the most).  There may be mods (like Skill level) that add or subtract from the total.  The difference between the rolls is number of bullets hit.  There are similar systems for Melee, HtH etc, using the same system but different mods.

Wounds - You have hit points based on strength and con but they are small in number and spread out over head/torso/arm/leg etc.  Much more RQ than D&D.

Basically think of a system inspired by RQ and Traveller with some unique systems to try and factor in mods from a simulation point of view while still being pretty manageable.  The crunch relies on lookups - players can have numbers set on their sheet, the GMs can have a screen  for mods, so a lot of factors can be included with simple addition/subtraction.  There's not a whole lot of formulas, a couple multiplications and divisions but those are done beforehand.  I'd put it roughly below Cyberpunk level of crunch, with GURPS/HERO/Rolemaster/Harnmaster all being quite a ways above it crunchwise.  The whole thing is 100 pages including intro, campaign setup and adventure, but it's old school 80's so small font and dense layout.

I saw it up on Scribd, but nowhere else, so it's not available to be purchased looks like.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

I bought a copy years ago after seeing ads in... Challenge, maybe? I liked the illustrations, which were attempting to evoke the Aliens/Outland sort of feel. It's straight SF... no FTL and IIRC no artificial gravity or psionics either. There are aliens, robots and biodroids.
We never played it (though the system seemed reasonable), but I did lift the setting and grafted it onto my homebrew scifi stuff.
I only mentioned it for the sake of completeness... not endorsement.

Also, GURPS Terradyne seems to be strictly solar local.

I loved reading the Transhuman Space books when they came out, but never really figured out what to do in the setting.

Theres also Mutant Chronicles. Thats all set in system.

While not Earths system. Firefly/Serenity takes place in one large heavily terraformed system.

And though it doesnt really count. There is Space 1889.

Dragon Magazine did a series of articles that introduced adventures in space and on the moon for various setting. The one that comes to mind most is the Top Secret article and module.

If you wish to include Mars in your campaign, do yourself a favor and get one of the best gaming resources on the subject of the Red Planet, and that is GURPS: Mars. Well worth it at twice the price.

I think it would make a Jason Bourne like super spy adventure pretty amazing. Being able to change bodies would be an incredible advantage. Also, introducing something fantastic like the arrival of a derelict colony ship from an unknown alien species, or steal ideas form Eclipse Phase like discovering an alien gate on one of the moons of Saturn where you can explore new worlds...  It makes a solid setting background to overlay adventures on if you want to start with a somewhat "realistic" base.

Big thumbs up
Played the shit out of these and I highly recommend them if you want it to feel "gritty and realistic". It can get very lethal very quickly. But I love these supplements dearly.

I feel deprived now. I had these but my GM wouldn't touch them, lol. And I can't GM for shit, so tough luck for me.
