OK, I'm getting a bug to start making miniature terrain for fantasy gaming, but I'm looking for cheap but useable stuff (I don't know if this a passing fancy or a new aspect to the hobby for me yet, so I don't want to completely dive in just yet). Mainly commoner dwellings and peasant housing with some dungeon spaces as well. Anybody got any good suggestions?
I bought a lot of Finger and Toe models. Very inexpensive and easy to put together.

I've also used a bit of Dave Graffam Models. A bit better quality than F&T.

I've used a lot of Fat Dragon, especially for 4th edition, when setting up terrain for encounters.

And lastly is Worldworks. High quality, come in sets, I'm not a huge fan of the art style, but there's good stuff in there

This is a good site offering free downloadable buildings of a European village: https://www.grundschule-pretzschendorf.de/en/Our_village/paper_models.html
I will let the experts in scale and model railroad matters describe what sort of enlargement would be necessary to turn them into 25 mm wargame sized buildings. Also whether they can be tinkered with to allow for things like liftable roofs. But they look sharp and whilst they aren't strictly medieval, neither would anyone be embarrassed to have them in their terrain collection.

What era? Therws some great ones from various sites and even DriveThru that are free or dont cost alot.
If you really want to go at it there is also the crafting angle. Creating buildings from basic foamcore. These can look excellent with a modicum of work. but does require some painting which isnt too hard.
Mainly medieval fantasy era, bog standard D&D type.
I'm looking at foamcore next if this bug looks like it won't go away.
