Check out my Unboxing Video for the amazing Legacy Edition box set of The Fantasy Trip, the new kickstarter! Guest-starring my cat.

I never got to try The Fantasy Trip and this looked like it might be a good opportunity. I am considering it intensely.
RPGPundit, I'm kinda surprised you got TFT because my impression of your gaming group was very theater of the mind and TFT is very hex and minis. Am I wrong about your crew?
Also, looking forward to your review of the boxed set. I played Melee & Wizard back in the day and we had a good time.
Someone got it for him. He's not sure who. It's kind of hilarious.
That said, it looks like it's basically a minis wargame w/ a few extras. Pundit even talks a little about how early RPGs and older wargames were really close, and it shows from the material we get to see here. I'm glad this is around for those who want it, but it's definitely not for me. I do like GURPS, though, which I understand was strongly influenced by TFT.
I also get a bit of a kick out of hearing someone talk about non-random, point buy character generation as a negative thing. Um . . . ok.
All this SJW nonsense made me search out a copy of TFT. Should arrived Tuesday according to FedEx!

Great game. Wont watch the unboxing because = boring. Why do unboxing videoes? For the "views"? Probably.

This much is true and should be encouraged for interested parties.
The Pundit asks about the art:
Steve got the rights back to his games, but the original art rights remain either with Metagaming or the original artists, so the art in this edition is all new - but more than a little effort was made to copy the style and even reference some of the iconic pieces of original art. The counters always had distinctive art and Liz Danforth who did significant amounts of the original art created new counter art that echoed the style and themes of the original counter art.
For instance, the art for the Pocket Box Edition of Melee & Wizard is a direct reference to the original Melee art on my first copy from back in '80 or '81. There are others I'm sure but that comes to mind the most easily for me.
I think some of the pieces the Pundit mentions that looks like nerds cosplaying may be art based on various employees whom some of the house artists doubtless are all too proficient at depicting, alas SJ games hires for ability not action movie looks.
Regarding the SJW controversies and the likely legal battle to come, people seem to forget or be ignorant of the fact Steve took a degree in law, but ended up running his own game company rather than joining the bar. He maybe be a libertarian and have his quirks, but he is keenly aware of US and Texas law. Short of the active lawyers involved in Kenzer & Co. he's probably the least appetizing person to engage with in legal battle in the gaming industry, in my opinion.

I don't know why any artist would do this other than as an obvious joke. It always looks terrible. In the FT pic they even have their glasses on!
I'm waiting for him to kickstart a deluxe set for One Page Bulge now.

Maybe it was reward for throwing lots of money at the ks. Give them $500, get your face in the art?

I did
not know that (although I knew about one of the other lawyer Steves--Long, formerly of Decipher and Hero Games). That suggests SJG knows what they're doing in this whole mess, whether they're actively involved or not.

LOL! Awesome. You know it would be a hit!
The best part of the unboxing video is Pundit's pronunciation of "melee." Is that a Canadian thing?
I find it hard to believe that someone with as much RPG design experience as Pundit doesn't know how to pronounce a word as common as "melee."
Anyway, nice video and looking forward to the formal review. I know nothing about TFT, but I see it being referenced pretty often. The packaging is certainly high quality. Love the cat.

Did you not watch the video?
Because as I stated there, this was a review copy, sent to me by surprise. I didn't get it myself. I haven't bought an RPG product in years, actually.

My pronunciation is the correct one. may-lay is the wrong one.

Really?! Wow, I learned something today.
I've actually never heard it pronounced any way other than "MAY-lay" as opposed to "muh-LEE." This might be one those words that people read in print but never actually say out loud and thus butcher it. Or maybe it's just the circles I run in (regional thing, etc). I need to reevaluate my entire life now ...

YW. I always find that your takes on RPG mechanics align with my own, and I usually learn something obscure that I hadn't considered along the way.
The artwork of gaming nerds in costume was a special offering in the kickstarter. I find it kind of charming; particularly the dog adventurers!

The unboxing video got less than the average number of views for my videos. The reason to do it was that it was a huge book full of many different parts, and I thought it'd be cool to show potential purchasers what was in it.

I was being a bit facetious. I'm pretty sure both pronunciations are common.
However, the English word comes from French origins. The same word exists in Spanish too. The pronunciation in French and in Spanish are a little different from each other, but (contrary to what I've heard some people try to claim in debates about how to pronounce this word) in both cases the pronunciations in those languages are actually closer to me-lee than to may-lay.
